Remember the popularity of Du Wop lip venom in the early 2000? I was a huge fan of its tingly feel back then. Here’s a funny story: in one of our executives’ meeting, the company president who was disappointed with the sales output suddenly got sidetracked in his speech, turned towards me and blurted out to the group “I am distracted by your lips and they shine when the light hits”. Everyone laughed while I shook my head in embarrassment. My colleagues teased me to wear that lip gloss every time we have a meeting to appease the president. Many years after, they still remember the incident. Fun times indeed.
Back to present times, I have not purchased Du Wop in over ten years, my guess-timate. I actually thought it’s no longer sold but a quick search revealed that it’s still available. It definitely went under the radar, I wonder why.
Anyway, today’s DIY is nothing rocket-science. I just happened to have plenty of essential oils that I use for my diffuser so I thought why not create a beauty hack with one of the oils. Oh hello peppermint, we meet again!
Peppermint is a common ingredient in lip products because of its soothing and cooling effect, and yes even the plumping! There are hundred and one ways to make your own lip gloss from scratch but today let’s do a quick beauty hack which will not require you to lift a finger. Okay, that’s quite an exaggeration.

Take any lip gloss of your choice, add 2-3 drops of peppermint essential oil.
Start conservative, maybe one drop.
Stir using the lip gloss applicator. Apply on your lips and see if the tingly feel is enough. 3 drops is my sweet spot, I feel the tingle and my lips look plump. The tingle does dissipate after 5 minutes, just like store-bought lip plumpers.
What do you think of this DIY? Have you done something similar?
What a brilliant lip plumper hack! Thanks, Kath!
I’ve done this before! You can also do it with cinnamon oil or some pepper oils, but the pepper would get intense I think.
I’ll try the cinnamon oil next. Thanks
That’s a really good idea. Quick, easy and inexpensive. It’s a good way to work through some glosses that have been sitting around.
Yes, finally I can use them again
Thank you for sharing this! I have never done that before.
Great idea. I don’t normally do hacks but I’ll try this one.
I remember DuWop, man that stung!! I don’t mind a little peppermint oil but I can’t take anything stronger.
That is SUCH a neat idea I never thought of before, but I really need to give it a try. I love peppermint oil for my diffuser so always have it on hand 🤗
Ha, that is a good idea, I can totally see how that would work!
