It’s officially summertime, can you believe it?! Which basically means hell got loose literally and figuratively. Hot as hell and I am not happy about it. While I consider myself quite lucky enough to be working in an air-conditioned office, I can’t say the same thing when I am out and about because of the sweltering heat. My solution to this annoyance is pretty straightforward: minimal makeup and breezy work outfits (read my staycation for summer).
Let’s begin with makeup. Now that my skin has cleared up, my go-to look lately is composed of tinted sunscreen with my under-eyes and T-zone lightly set with mineral powder. Groomed and naturally-defined brows are also my jam, I can skip all the she-bang but I can’t leave home with sparse and uneven brows. Whenever I wear contacts, I apply mascara otherwise I also tend to skip that because I dread raccoon eyes. Lipgloss is making a comeback this season so I’m all up for change because liquid lipstick or matte bullet ones, even though they are favorites feel thick this time of the year.
Now allow me to briefly touch on skincare because summertime brings out the worst in sun spots, acne and melasma. So please, I beg thee, be mindful of your sunscreen reapplication because this is where most people falter (read why use sunscreen). Remember, reapply every two hours if you will be out longer or each time you get wet and sweaty. Wear wide-brimmed hat, wear sunglasses with UV protection and seek shade between 10am-4pm. As far as laser procedures go, and this is where you need to speak to your treatment provider, note that if you’re having procedures in relation to sun spots or melasma, I say give it a break unless you will be able to totally avoid the sun, beach, or other external factors that will affect the performance of the laser vis-a-vis your compliance. If you aren’t using over-the-counter glycolic acid yet as part of your maintenance, I suggest that you include it now to help with hyperpigmentation (mild case). I wrote a more comprehensive post on this topic, given my perspective as a treatment provider (Aesthetic Registered Nurse Laser Specialist).
Style-wise, I know my look is predictable, especially if you follow me on Instagram, watch my YouTube videos or you’ve read my previous blog posts. Jumpsuit is my default “uniform” at work because it’s comfortable, frill-free, and stylish at the same time (read how to wear jumpsuits). I’m slowly embracing patterns and colors so this jumpsuit marries pattern and color besides black, haha! Safe choice but hey, it serves the purpose. One way I introduce color is via accessories and handbags such as this mini-Cher tote bag from Angela Roi. It’s a spring release but as you can see, the rose pink color is great for summer too (watch the ins and outs of this bag). I also bring out some bright yet simple accessories such as this pair of hot pink earrings I snagged at Macy’s around Christmas time last year. Quick tip, Macy’s does sale on sale regularly, go straight to the jewelry section and look for the clearance area. The selections there are more suited to women of certain age versus F21 or H&M.

That’s a cute jumper! I agree with you on minimal makeup and breezy outfits during the hotter than heck summer months.
Thanks! I can’t stand full coverage this time
I love this black & white jump suit. The border detail at the bottom of the legs is fab.
Thanks Allison. It’s supposedly cropped/culottes but since I’m tiny it kind of fell at the right place 🙂
Great recommendations for surviving the sweltering heat in style!
Thanks much
Good information! I never thought about switching to a tinted lip gloss in summer. I love your paisley jumpsuit too.
Thanks much!
Looks great. I totally go minimal at this time of year. I love your outfit!!!!
Mahalo!
Love the less is more makeup look right now. With Summer I want to wear less and less so I tend to stick to the same type of routine!
Same here. It’s so hot right now, even bra makes me feel uncomfortable, haha! TMI
I work mostly in an a/ced office myself so I find myself wearing a lot of sundresses or leggings with tunic tops. I know I need to get more in my wardrobe though because I’m taking more client meetings now where I have to be more professional.
I love sundresses. The tough part of me is finding the right length because I’m so tiny
I wear jeans but lightweight ones in the summer. I don’t expose my ghostly skin to the elements! But I do have fun with the tops I wear. I’d like to use an OTC Glycolic but can’t until I’m done with IPL.
Yay to fun tops!
You are looking all sorts of adorable in this look! The purse is the perfect accessory too. I’m with you on the sun screen every day all day!
I like to keep my makeup light and simpler in the summer too.
Wow.. This is such an incredible look. You are amazing. I love how you added a subtle pop of color with that nude pink tote bag..
Thanks so much. I love colors in my accessories but I am way too boring with my black outfits, lol
Lol you’re so funny! I love the heat (I know, I’m weird). Growing up in Texas, you learn to embrace it lol. I love your outfit and style tips…you’re always so on point!
Minimal makeup is perfect for summer, or it can also be a good time to try things you wouldn’t normally! Ha!
I live that humidity life in NYC so sun dresses for the win.
