Affordable Vegan & Cruelty-Free Makeups You Should Try

If you caught my prior video on cruelty-free makeup tag, one of the questions I gladly shed light to was about inexpensive makeups with great quality. The question read “many people assume being cruelty-free is expensive and the products don’t work. Prove them wrong! What is your favorite product that is inexpensive and cruelty free?

First and foremost, I don’t know where that assumption stems from; it’s akin to “being vegan must be expensive”, which I often get asked, along with other gazillion things like my protein source, calcium source, etc. But as with other things, the cruelty-free beauty industry has come a long way, quality-wise, including variety of price points to serve the growing demand for such products, and yes, vegan included!

Here are my favorite vegan and cruelty-free makeups that are pocket-friendly and with stellar quality to boot!

Colourpop Cosmetics is cruelty-free but is not fully vegan (read my top 10 non-vegan ingredients lurking in your makeups). Their website lists the ingredients and are properly labeled if they’re vegan or not. I particularly love their eyeshadows which I featured in this post and shown in this video. Their price point starts at $5.50 (lip liner) up to $20+ for a palette and mind you, cheap as they are, they run promotions very often. Shipping is free domestically for $30 purchase and $50 internationally. My top favorites from them include the recently launched Lux Lipsticks which I live-swatched, the eyeshadow palette, highlighting palette, including the more recent collection Butterfly collection shown in this video. The following products are all vegan:

elf Cosmetics is vegan and cruelty-free, and the cheapest of the bunch! I remember buying elf like there’s no tomorrow in the early stages of my blogging gig. I even did videos using their makeups back in the day. I was happy to be reoriented with their products again last year and was surprised that their shipping has immensely improved. elf products are also accessible because you can find them at Walmart and Target. If you’re like me, a trip to Target and Walmart won’t be complete without checking the beauty aisle. My favorite from elf includes their synthetic makeup brushes, you can build a collection without spending a fortune! I also like their lipsticks and cheek palettes. Their price point starts $3 up to $55 depending on the item or brush set you’re buying. The following products are all vegan:

Wet n Wild is cruelty-free but not entirely vegan. You can also find their products in practically every drugstore or dollar store there is. Their matte lipsticks rival MAC which isn’t cruelty-free. I remember few years back while attending an event at Nordstrom, a sales associate from MAC asked me if I was wearing their famous Russian Red shade, I said no it’s from Wet n Wild which left her in awe. As a side note though, as with all other matte lipsticks, it’s important that you exfoliate and hydrate your lips first so you can rock the brightest and darkest shade. My current favorite from Wet n Wild is the megalength mascara, this is the only mascara they have that’s vegan, at least based from the list of ingredients and availability at Target where I purchased it. The following products are all vegan:

Pacifica Beauty is vegan and cruelty-free. You can buy their products at Target or from their website. For the most part, Pacifica is relatively affordable depending on where you live. Their price point starts at $9.99. My favorite from Pacifica includes nail polish and tinted lip balm. They do have skincare collection which I will feature in another time. The following products are all vegan:

Pixi Beauty is another staple in my relatively affordable makeup collection. They are cruelty-free but not entirely vegan. Price point starts $12+, again depending on where you live. At my local Target here in Oahu, Hawaii, average retail markup is around $5 more versus mainland pricing. The following products are all vegan:

Physician’s Formula is cruelty-free but not entirely vegan. They have the most adorable packaging in the drugstore category and they regularly run promotions. Just today when I went to my local CVS, all their products are 40% off so what a beauty junkie gotta do? pick up a few! Here are some of their products that are vegan:

Here’s my vegan and cruelty-free makeup look featuring Colourpop’s Butterfly/New Theory collection. The lipstick shade is called Lullaby. Eye makeup is a blend from their Super Shock Shadow called Bubble Bee and Flux With You. I like seeing this list of cruelty free brands. I use Pixi all the time. I’m also a fan of WnW (just picked some up this week) and ColourPop.

I love Wet n Wild, though my current favourite is Makeup Revolution. Their new Pro range seems to be entirely vegan.
