Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Project Chimps

Liquid lipstick is one of my obsessions. To date, I still stand by Anastasia  (reviewed several shades here and here) and Smashbox (reviewed here and here) as benchmarks when it comes to unparalleled pigmentation and non-drying formula. Recently, Kat Von D released a limited-edition liquid lipstick called Project Chimps (20% of sales will go to this nonprofit organization to preserve the sanctuary of chimpanzees). To be honest, I find Kat Von D liquid lipstick a tad drying based from my previous experience with Lolita; however it’s been years since I tried one from the brand so I thought the formula could be different this time so long story short, I gave it a go.

Retailing for $20, this shade is described as brick red (but that’s depending on your lips pH level). To me, it appears more true red than what it truly is. The doe foot applicator is slightly slanted and there is a bit of a challenge when applied on lip corner. I also reinforced it with a lip liner on my bottom lips as I struggled to keep the application error-free. As a side tip, exfoliate and drench your lips with moisture (lip balm) for about five minutes then pat off excess before applying any liquid lipstick. This will ensure even application and prevent potential dryness. As for Kat Von Project Chimps, the formula still made my lips dry despite the extra measures mentioned. I don’t have this issue with Anastasia and Smashbox. The longevity is also relative; it survived sipping coffee and drinking water here and there but totally required retouching after downing a light meal.

Here’s a comparison swatch of red liquid lipsticks just so you have an idea how Project Chimps look compared to AnastasiaSmashbox and Mac (not a fan of the formula, reviewed here):

Bottomline, not a fan then, still not a fan now. But kudos to the project organizers behind the creation of this limited shade.

I love the color on you. I also love the cause!

I have lolita and never wear it for that reason…so I'm also not going to invest in any others 🙁

One of my friends love the Kat Von D liquid lipsticks but I know we all have different expectations. I'm not interested in trying these out myself.

Great cause for sure. From your swatches I like the look of the MAC because it looks less dry & I have a hard time with most liquid mattes. On occasion I wear liquid neutrals but when it comes to red, I wear matte regular lipstick 💄 or liquid satins or creams. My older lips are just too dry. Tho you weren't crazy about the KVD, it looked fab on you in the photo!

Unfortunately, MAC made my lips terribly dry. Formula is deceiving sometimes.

Such a great cause, and the color is very pretty, but the fact that it is drying is a deal-breaker for me!

It's a gorgeous colour and I love the cause behind it! Shame about the formula, though 🙁

OMG! That is crazy that after all of the prep to apply the lippie that is still dried your lips.

Beautiful color and a great cause! Too bad it's so drying though.

Lately I've taken to applying all my liquid lippies with a lip brush & I definitely find it helps!

the color is gorgeous and I love the campaign behind it… plus I love a red lip – but I do find that Kat Von D lippies are a bit drying considering they do not have a very thick formula and I rarely touch my Kat Von D lippies for that reason… too drying for me too.
