Buy or Bust? Givenchy Poudre Lumiere Originelle

For Spring/Summer 2016, Givenchy launched several new products for makeup aficionados like moi. One of the items that made me weak in the knees is the Poudre Lumiere Originelle (Soft Powder Radiance Enhancer). I mean, how can you not fall in love with the soft pastel pink hue and intricately designed lace-like compact? But is it a real charmer in my book of must-haves? read further for the ultimate scoop!

Givenchy Poudre Lumiere Originelle Review Swatch

I read your mind. So what is it exactly? a setting powder, highlighter, face powder? Per brand’s description “it gives the face a delicate illumination; apply it generously over the face for fresh-faced glow or use as highlighter on the cheekbones, node bridge, center of the chin, and forehead”. At $57 (10g/ 0.35 oz), it does sound like a pricey manna from heaven!

I will cut the chase for you ladies. Much as I love Givenchy as a whole (the lipstick range most especially), this pretty-in-the-pan is a fail-in-the-face product. Swiped with a finger, I can detect the subtle illumination but mostly matte texture but applied on the face, it did nothing to illuminate or highlight. I also have to swirl my face brush multiple times to pick up the product as I see no transformation happening. I don’t expect miracle but for the price, c’mon I need to be floored at the very least. So after two weeks of convincing myself that there has to be a way, I give up! It’s like staring at a pretty face which falls short on substance, sigh!

any recent product fail in your book? warn me…

I was looking at this online recently and I fell in love with the lace detail. It's such a shame that it doesn't perform though because it's absolutely stunning to look at! Thanks so much for your review. x

The packaging is gorgeous but if they're not delivering then it's not worth the price.

Thank you so much for saving me some money, twinsy! I have been contemplating this since it launched, and now I know that I can safely pass without regret! Too bad it's a fail, though!

You're not missing out twinsy, I am disappointed with this one

  4. February 26, 2016 / 3:25 pm

Oh yikes, bummer that it didn't perform well. I generally like Givenchy's face products, like powders, bronzers, and blushes, but sounds like this one is a dud.

True that. I have Givenchy bronzer and foundation that I love

What a huge disappointment, especially at that price. It's one of the most gorgeous looking highlighters ever in the pan. Do you think it would show up on paler skin? Hope you can return it.

    • February 26, 2016 / 8:26 pm

I doubt if it would show up because the formula itself is odd.

What a bummer!! This is seriously so beautiful, such a shame it did nothing!

  7. February 27, 2016 / 2:39 am

Aww, it's too bad it didn't work. It is pretty to look at LOL!

  8. February 27, 2016 / 3:10 am

I hope you've returned it, it's too expensive to own something that doesn't make you look better. It's hard not to be swayed by pretty designs but it sounds like that's the only positive with this.

  9. February 27, 2016 / 5:21 pm

Bummer! Sometimes, you just want to love something so much, but you can't make it happen.

  10. February 27, 2016 / 8:51 pm

    Yuck. I hate subtle highlighters.

  11. February 28, 2016 / 12:54 am

UGH what a shame =( It's so pretty to look at!

  12. February 28, 2016 / 8:42 pm

Oh man… thank you for sharing your thoughts. That's the last thing I would like to do is use something and buy it at that price point and it not be worth it. 🙂

  13. February 29, 2016 / 12:47 am

It stinks that it doesn't deliver because the press is gorgeous.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! It looks too pretty to be a fail!
