So it’s officially summer. Time to hit the beach and soak up the sun smartly. With that I meant carrying fully-downsized essentials, which for a beauty-obssesed gal like moi remains a tough challenge. So without dilly-dallying, here are my top five staples!

{1} Sunscreen. Summer or not, I never leave home without some serious and generous application and reapplication of sunscreen. I love the outdoors so it’s second nature to stock up on such. Sunburn, photoaging, melanoma, I’m all about prevention. Try Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch, it’s non-greasy, water-resistant, makes skin glow, and very affordable.

{2} Lip protection. Lip burn is awful, more so if it’s from the sun. Treat and hydrate whenever, wherever so a lip balm with built-in SPF is the obvious choice. Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment has SPF 15 and moisturizes like a dream.

{3} Refresh and rehydrate. Sun zaps out skin’s moisture so make it a habit to rehydrate every so often.  I always carry a travel-size facial mist like Murad Resurgence because it replenishes lost moisture and smells like freshly-cut apple!

{4} Eye protection. UV rays also damage certain parts of the eyes and can cause problems like cataracts. More than style and cost, choose sunglasses that offer UV protection plus other benefits depending on certain activities you’re doing i.e polarized for driving/skiing because it reduces glare/sun reflection. My favorite summer sunnies are from Toms (also mentioned here).

{5} More than head protection. Sun hats don’t only repel heat but also protect from facial sunburn and skin cancer. Choose styles that have broad brims and cover downwards to minimize UV rays exposure. The hat I’m provided with is from Scala from the Lahaina line. It’s made of 100% cotton, travel-friendly (fold/unfold), comes in 25 fun colors, and has added benefit of UPF50+ rating (UPF is the equivalent of SPF in fabrics). You can buy this style in most retail stores nationwide or online via Village Hat Shop.

You look great in hats, but I am pretty sure you could pull off wearing a cat on your head(if you wanted too heheh, who am I to judge 🙂 I recently started using some really nice SPF lip products.

You know me, girl, I'm all about that SPF, and that hat sounds fantastic for the beach, where the UV rays bounce all over the place. Sunscreen alone is definitely not enough 🙂
