Whether you are a makeup aficionado or beauty noob, investing on a great neutral eyeshadow palette is a true necessity more than an unwarranted want. While shimmers and metallics are omnipresent, a palette-full of mattes is hard to find. Ready to rock nude mattes? scroll down for more juice and scoop!
I bet some of you didn’t know cruelty-free skincare brand Paula’s Choice has makeups ha? Honestly I had no idea! Housed in a cardboard case which closes magnetically, this neutral eyeshadow palette, aptly named The Nude Mattes (0.6 oz, $40), features 11 mattes and 1 sheen. The shades range from browns (cool and warm) to gray and black, all moderately-pigmented but buildable to your liking. The add-ons, a decent-sized mirror and quality eyeshadow brush nestled inside the case, are always appreciated by yours truly.
What the website says “This unique eyeshadow palette features 11 velvety, true matte shadows plus one highlighting shadow in universally wearable shades—the kind you’ll find in any good makeup artist’s kit! In fact, the experts at Paula’s Choice consulted with makeup expert and YouTube sensation Wayne Goss on the creation of this palette”
Ask any makeup enthusiast and right off the bat she/he will tell you that finding the perfect matte eyeshadows can be quite elusive. Those that I have tried are either hard and dry or fallout-powdery. These eyeshadows are neither of the two so I’m a happy camper, formula-wise. Applied over an eye primer, these didn’t budge or fade for all of ten hours (morning to late afternoon to be more precise).
Another issue I have had with matte eyeshadows in the past is blendability, these however spared me from the hassle, thankfully!
As you can see from the bevy of neutrals (applied over an eye primer), there are seven browns you can play with. A personal favorite, gunmetal gray, when applied on the crease, does break the monotony of brown. Onyx is pitch black, the most pigmented from this palette. Pink Sugar is the one and only sheen, intentionally included for highlighting purposes.
|strike a pose zilla, haha!|
For my eye makeup, I started by defining my crease with gunmetal gray. For transitional color, I used plum taupe. For my brow arch, I applied cream. For my lower lash line, I smudged onyx from outer eye to midway, mixing with plum taupe for added dimension.
I wish the case was made of tin for sturdier presentation but other than that, I am more than delighted to have found an all neutral-matte palette I can rock 365d!
