I know we’re just starting to enjoy spring but blame me not for getting uber pumped up for summer. First, I’m looking forward to having two weeks off from work. Second, I’m hitting the big 4-0 mark. Third, I am seriously rewarding myself with the ultimate dream purse to celebrate this milestone. Fourth, summer makeup launches what else!

Now if you’ve been following this blog for a while (Aloha if you’re a noob), you know that I’m insane with all things lipsticks. I wrote about it here, read if you want few minutes of feel-good time. So while browsing Nordstrom online last week, my heart skipped a beat when I saw the new Tom Ford Summer Limited Edition Color Shimmer.

Available in two shades, I purchased Solar Gold wishful-thinking that it will drench my lips with goddess-like exuberance (the other shade is moonlight).

Retailing for $49 (.1 oz/ 3g), this lipstick is housed in an elegant retro-ish white and gold tube. It’s similar to the spring collection which I have reviewed here. If you’re familiar with Tom Ford lipsticks then you’ll instantly recognize the stark difference from this collection. Can someone tell me why the tip is round? Honestly, this got me thinking out loud; gut feel says (1) it’s a limited edition (2) it’s more than a lipstick.

Okay, I will keep my analysis short and sweet. If you have never tried a Tom Ford lippy before, this shouldn’t be your first purchase. Point-blank, the very sheer a.k.a almost nil pigmentation may disappoint you. Initially I was!

Swatched, you can hardly see gold right? Should I give up? Nah, because it does possess great qualities inherent to Tom Ford: moisturizing, non-sticky and commendable wear time. Plus, when paired with dark eye makeup (I went a little subdued in the photos below), it makes a great neutral albeit shimmer lippy to rock at daytime.

If you’re a fan of sparkle then you’ll exhaust every effort to make the most of out of this lipstick. After all, you didn’t pay almost fifty bucks for nothing so here are different ways you can use this shimmer:

(1) As a topper for liquid lipsticks (i.e. Kat Von D, Hourglass). The trick is to let the liquid lipstick dry first for few minutes then apply this at the center of your lips for that unexpected burst of shimmer. Yes, I prefer liquid lipstick that dries to a matte finish to prevent color transfer mishap.

(2) If you have La J-Lo flawless skin, use this to highlight your cheekbones. I don’t and sadly, the gold sparkles emphasized my ludicrous pores from hell.

(3) As a highlighter stick for brow arch.

Overall, the question here is… will I purchase the other shade? or better yet, should I stock up since it’s a limited edition? NO. I’m not really a neutral-kind-of-gal, I love brights so I’m going to charge solar gold to experience…. and obviously on mah poor credit card.

if there’s a will, there’s a way.
