There are so many policies pushing for a healthy America but you know one thing I find so ironic? healthy foods are damn expensive! Going green, natural and organic is akin to living the lifestyle of the rich and famous. Let’s do simple math. $50 will buy me no more than five items from a health food store but maybe ten or more at Walmart. The solution ain’t rocket science but if we can make healthy foods affordable to all then we will have better choices and maybe stoping blaming McDonalds for obesity.
Now that you’ve heard me loud and clear, let’s focus on beauty matters. I don’t know about you but my trip to a health food store is never complete without heading to the beauty aisle. It’s the makeup junkie instinct in me, who else can relate?
As far as I know, there are three Whole Foods in Hawaii. I prefer going to Down To Earth, it’s locally owned but has the same concept overall. I just wish they carry more makeups!
For today’s post, I narrowed my choices to my Top 5 a.k.a Fab Five so in no random order, here they are:
(1) Sibu Beauty Sea Buckthorn Hydrating Serum ($39.95, 1 fl oz/ 30ml). Considered a beauty berry in Asia and Europe, sea buckthorn has omega and bioactive compounds that are essential for collagen production, healthy hair and stronger nails. I have reviewed Sibu serum here but in a nutshell, it’s a lightweight natural/vegan serum with inviting aroma which is perfect for daytime skincare!
(2) Mineral Fusion Nail Lacquer ($7.99) is a recent discovery. You may or may not know that I’m uber low maintenance with my nails and absolutely talentless in nail art. I think Mineral Fusion had me in mind with its chip-resistant formula. I am impressed that I had six days of wear time with Nickel and Dime (metallic silver gray) before it chipped, and to think that I’m obsessed with handwashing!
(3) Alba Botanica Lip Gloss ($4.99) isn’t exclusive to health foods store because you can also buy it elsewhere but I always gravitate to it whenever I visit Down to Earth. It smells good and very moisturizing!
(4) Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel ($9.95) is an alcohol-free toner. In case you don’t know yet, witch hazel is good for acne- prone skin while rose petal is great for hydration. It has a subtle rosy scent and for less than $10, it’s a steal!
(5) Earth Science Chamomile and Green Tea Eye Makeup Remover ($7). This stuff is made from several herbal extracts. I like that it didn’t sting or irritate my eyes at all. It’s fragrance-free so big props to that!
Have you shopped beauty items from your local health food store? What’s your favorite?

Something tells me I was right all along Tina!
I totally agree with you that it's ridiculous how much more expensive healthy food it. I need to look for the eye makeup remover. I would like to try something new.
I think you'll like the eye makeup remover. Guess what, I went back to my local health food store today….
Great list!! I love Sibu, and use the moisturizer under makeup. It's the perfect consistency. I love Earth Science too. Their ceramide lotion is amazing! I use the Thayers Rose everyday, year round on my dryish skin. Love it!!
Great to know that you've tried and liked these products!!! Sibu is amaze-balls!
I'd never even thought about going to the Health Food store for makeup! Good idea. (And, of course, cheers for the nail polish pix! You go, girl.)

The Sibu Buckthorn Hydrating Serum is on my list of products to try this year.
A must-try and it won't disappoint.
I haven't really shopped at my local health foods store for makeup and skin care, no. But I know No Miss is sold through Whole Foods and I love that brand of nail polish. I am curious about the Sibu since I have heard a couple great reviews on that. The alba lippie sounds like it smells great!
I went back to my local health food store and bought few more nail lacquers from Mineral Fusion. I have to check out No Miss! You'll like Sibu
I adore anything with Witch Hazel in it!
Me too! It's great for my oily/acne-prone skin.
I love searching whole foods for beauty finds!
Cheers to us makeup fanatics.

I wonder if they've got that hawaiian lip gloss here in the mainland!
Pretty sure they have it.
I want to get my hands on those polishes!
The price differentiation really is ridiculous! I love that polish on you.
I'm in the market for a natural toner. Thayer's looks promising!
Rose Witch Hazel sounds delish!
Great picks! The nail lacquer is interesting. I like the color and as you said that it doesn't easily chip.
