Whoever coined the word selfie should be given an honorary plaque of appreciation. No kidding! If you’re on Instagram, you know exactly what I mean. It literally is the most hashtagged and uploaded photo! So what’s this obsession with pictures of yourself taken by yourself? Honestly it’s so contagious even moi caught the #selfie virus, haha!
So let’s talk about summer selfie-tanning a.k.a DIY tanning. I bought this tarte Brazilliance face and body self-tanner on a whim ($37, 5.5 fl oz/ 165ml, Sephora).
The irony of it all. You would think that for someone who lives five minutes away from the beach, faux tanning is the least of my concern right? Note to self: wake up Kathryne you’re in Hawaii! Well truth is, I hardly have time to go to the beach, an utter shame I know! But see, I work 6 days a week and in my free time (which is usually in the evening), you’ll either find me blogging or blogging. No exaggeration.
But it’s a face and body self-tanner so I thought it was a wise choice; plus you get this mitt for ease of application. Excuses, excuses.
Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Fragrance, Cetyl Alcohol, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Ceteareth-20, Squalane, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Cetyl Hydroxyethylcellulose, Xanthan Gum, Caprylyl Glycol, Chlorphenesin, Polysorbate 60, Sodium Metabisulfite, Stearyl Alcohol, Myristyl Alcohol, Amyl Cinnamal, Limonene, Sodium Nitrate, Passiflora Edulis Seed Oil, Linalool, Silica, Sodium Phosphate, Sodium Acetate, Citral, Geraniol, Dihydroxyacetone, Red 40 (CI 16035), Yellow 5 (CI 19140), Blue 1 (CI 42090)
Ready, tan, action!
Before: Just so you know, my legs are way lighter than my fez because they’re practically covered all day, what with my daily work pants.
After: Look mama, tan gams!
A tanner that moisturizes. At least that’s how I would summarize my experience with tarte Brazilliance. My skin felt soft and hydrated even if I didn’t have to moisturize prior to applying it (most self-tanners require that). I just had to exfoliate so well, especially my knees and elbows to avoid streaks. The mitt really came in handy, it was easy to use and wash. The formula is semi-creamy; about a quarter size is enough to cover one section of my leg. As it gets absorbed onto your skin (hours later), there is a teeny-weeny bit of citrusy fragrance which for the most part is negligible.
Tan without being tanorexic. Hub loves my natural skin color so when I asked him if he noticed something different, he couldn’t tell. But of course, that would depend on how much you apply and how often. Packaging says you have to use it once or twice a week to maintain natural-looking tan but in my case, I’d say it’s thrice.
Want to see my head-to-tan? Hub took this photo of me while exercising the other day.
Are you summer #selfie ready? you bet I am. 100%.
What’s you fave self-tanner? have you tried tarte?
Kathryne
I can definitely see a difference in the before an after. I have to admit, I thought you were probably at the beach quite often 😉
Hi Arielle, some of my friends in the mainland think the same way. If only I can be a beach goddess, hahaha
The color result looks gorgeous! I need this desperately for my legs. I'm curious on how it looks as it fades, does it fade well or patchy?
Thanks much Tina! You will see more difference with your leg, I'm pretty sure! As to fading, I had no patchy issues because I always exfoliate and moisturize 🙂
I am always looking for a good self-tanner, especially one that moisturizes.
this is worth a try Elizabeth. Let me know how it turned out for you.xo
Thanks for doing this before and after! I am MUCHO pale, and was scared to use this until someone braved the way for me. 🙂
