I’ve been meaning to update my home office-slash-makeup-room this year. My mandate for the ultimate woman cave is pretty simple: clean, modern and a bit eclectic.

So it’s almost complete now with minor finishing touches here and there (i.e floor lamp, new ceiling fan, love seat). But overall, it’s ready for a quick sneak peek. Come check it out!

Clean = clutter-free. That was the biggest challenge. Much as I like everything within my reach, I don’t want my table to become a pseudo makeup counter. I also don’t like the traditional vanity set-up because I want my space to cater to both my makeup and office needs. I am not a fan of display-type shelves because I’m OC with dust. With all these in mind, the smart solution is to buy a dresser that is big enough to hide my stashes and a table that I can use in the morning when I do my makeup, and in the evening when I am blogging.

Modern = invest on quality pieces. Another challenge, this time it’s a clash between my impulsive conscious nature versus my ever frugal subconscious. I could’ve settled for mid-priced IKEA but there is nothing like that here in Hawaii. Hub and I visited several stores and showrooms but they don’t capture my vision. I tried Craigslist but why buy second-hand if my intention is to update, right? So my next best option is the ultra-modern yet pricey Inspiration Interior Design Showroom in downtown Honolulu.

Love at first sight. When I saw this white lacquer table, I knew I had to get it pronto. Must be serendipity because it’s the only one available that fateful Saturday! I chose a silver/chrome office chair which I think compliments the desk ever so nicely.

Okay I read your mind! Is it hard to maintain a white workspace? Hell yeah but it forces me to tidy up my shit; and didn’t I just mention that I am OC with dust? hahahaha!

Few weeks and few more savings after, we went back to Inspiration to procure this white dresser. Again, it’s the only one available so I had to make sure there were no scratches in it. I was at work when it was delivered and Hub said it took three people to bring it up to my room. I didn’t realize it was that heavvvvy!

I watch news (more of listening though) while getting ready for work.
That explains the ‘lil TV on the side.

Eclectic = creatively frugal. Now we’re talking. I know exactly where to buy affordable yet statement pieces! Pier 1 Imports, TJ Maxx, Bed Bath & Beyond, even Ross. I get excited visiting these stores, okay probably not the same level as when I’m inside Sephora, but you get what I mean. It’s fun shopping for home accessories! Here’s what I have added so far:

Colorful wall art to break the whiteness of it all (about $80, Pier 1 Imports)

Glass display plate to hold my everyday fragrance and jewelries. ($10, Pier 1 Imports)

Clear drinking glasses to hold my clean makeup brushes ($5 each, Pier 1 Imports)

Vintage Marilyn Monroe bust.
This is the only one I kept from my “old” makeup room.
I have no green thumb so fake the orchids baby! ($9, Ross)

lovely mirror ($16, TJ Maxx)

Curious to see how I organize my makeups and whatnot? You can find my full post here.

I shop my dresser every morning.
It makes me happy, so trivial I know!

As if the reno wasn’t enough, Hub surprised me with a MacBook Air, his advance birthday present to me. Imagine my excitement when I saw this on my desk:

So here’s the before (old makeup room). No personality whatsoever. But I was proud of my DIY vanity then.

This is what I’m talking about— pseudo makeup counter, dust collector. Yikes, I’m suffocated!

The storm before the calm. Throw, keep, donate? Segregation time.

even my furry baby hates the clutter!

As the saying goes, happy wife happy life!

What’s your recent reno or home makeover?
