Fact of life: I have 5% to no luck with liquid lipsticks. I don’t know about you guys but the formula, regardless of the brand, is just too dry for me. Could it be because of my aging lips? I’m honestly starting to think that way, no bueno.

Maybe Kat Von D Everlasting Love Liquid Lipstick will change this mindset. Lemme lemme see.

Exclusively sold at Sephora ($19), this product claims to stain lips with bold, long-wearing color. It goes on wet for precise application then dries to a matte velvety finish. Lolita is pinkish light brown, your ideal everyday neutral shade.

Here’s the skinny ladies! Like other Kat Von D lippies I have tried, this one is very pigmented. One swipe is all you need to stain your lips, so big props for that! It does last long, I would say about six hours (with water-drinking on the side). But here’s the real issue. It dries way too matte that it settles onto my ugly lip lines despite moisturizing my lips. Need proof? There you go.

Now I’m not the type who easily gives up with life’s trivialities such as this schmancy fancy reportage of sorts so I layered it with a colorless lip balm. Boom, problem solved! My lips aren’t dry anymore (well of course Ms. Common Sense). And as Mariah Carey would say it, hashtag pow!

Aging lips or not, I am totally convinced now that matte liquid lipsticks are not designed for my kind of specie. Fact of life.

What about you? how’s your experience with liquid lipsticks?

  • My lips get incredibly dry, too. I really like MUFE Aqua Rouge, when the gloss is added. It seems I always have to add a balm or gloss.
