So it’s almost summer and bronzer is my second bff. No offense Ms. Bronzey but between you and Ms. SPF, I can’t go out without her sun protection prowess. But like a supporting role in a movie, the main star is only as good as its stellar cast.
I don’t know about you but I like matte bronzer more than sheen or shimmer. Moi have open pores and oily skin so I stay away from anything that will exaggerate these craters from Mars.
Again I don’t know about you but I hardly use bronzer to contour my semi-round fez. Instead I go for the classic sun-smooched effect. I do this by swiping a face brush along my forehead, temples, a ‘lil bit on cheekbones, and jawline.
And again I don’t know about you but it’s difficult to find the right bronzer that caters to my pickiness.
Will Hourglass Superficial Waterproof Bronzer Mirage ($45, Sephora) be the answer?
Like I previously mentioned, when I have positive experience with a brand, I expand my collection. Hourglass Immaculate Foundation is my new favorite foundy; Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder is my go-to setting powder; And while I wasn’t impressed with Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick, my subconscious always leads me to Hourglass shelf whenever I visit my local Sephora.
So futuristic it swivels, the mirror that is! While it has no extra benefit to me, a cool packaging like this adds to my fondness for Hourglass. The brush is no cheapo quality, mind you! The bristles are soft and while I don’t exactly use this to apply my bronzer, it makes a great blush brush.
What the website says about this diva of a bronzer: “seamlessly blends onto the skin, oil-free, long-wearing, go-to bronzer for swimming, outdoor activities and the summer heat”.
Now I’m not bashing anyone who goes to the beach, read ~~> with the intention of swimming <~~ in full makeup madness! But c’mon who does that? The only thing I do is to overload my skin with sunscreen and wear lip balm with SPF. I need to mention it because I cannot vouch this bronzer’s promise of being waterproof. Sweat or humidity-proof I can, what with the super hot Hawaii weather here!
Finally it’s matte baby! Yep, none of that glitter and shimmer.

The downside? It’s only available in one shade so it’s gonna be a hit or miss for some. Mirage is described as matte golden tan. It’s very pigmented so go easy with the application; build if you must but do it ever so lightly, oki?
What’s your fave matte bronzer?
