It’s true! The secret to a good makeup starts with foundation. In fact, I encourage my girl friends to invest more on foundation out of all the makeups in a woman’s arsenal. I like liquid foundations because I can play around with coverage: medium for everyday wear or full-on for special ala-red carpet occasions. Choosing the right foundation depends on your skin type, skin tone and preferred coverage. If you have oily skin like me, be on the look out for “oil-free, non-comedogenic, long-wearing, mattifying”. Needless to say, it helps that you use a face primer prior to applying foundation so your makeup stays throughout the day.
There are nice brands, and there are those I continue to patronize. So here are my Top 3 Liquid Foundations:
Tarte Amazonian Clay 12- hour Full Coverage Foundation (Medium) is quite a recent discovery. It is lightweight, easy to blend and has SPF 15. Though full coverage, it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing a pile of makeup. Used with a face primer, it lasts for ten hours or until I’m ready to take it off. This has become my go-to foundation lately.
Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation (Sand Beige) gives me that flawless look for pictorials. I feel extra gorgeous whenever I use this foundy. It has a slightly creamier formula and a small amount goes a long way. It’s not as long-wearing as Tarte and MUFE and it has a tendency to oxidize on my oily skin. Regardless, I still like it for that short-lived moment of fairy tale gorgeousness!
Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + is the foundation I use for long hours under extreme temperature, say filming out in the sun. It is oil-free and water-resistant. It dries pretty quick so you need to blend it faster than normal.
No matter what brand I use, I always seal my foundation with a finishing powder. What about you? any top 3 faves?
xoxo
Love this post…I am a major foundation fanatic and your descriptions and swatches are amazing! I have tried the LM Silk Creme and it has such a beautiful finish but I do tend to get a bit too glowy with a couple of hours of wear. The MUFE seems like a great summer color for me…must get a sample! I am also fascinated by the good things you have to say about the Tarte…it looks like it provides great coverage! Just ordered the new Givenchy foundation from Sephora…can't wait to see how it measures up against my current favorites!
Take care,

Many thanks for dropping by. I have yet to try Givenchy, I'll wait for your review on that. xoxo
I have always wanted to try the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation! And the Tarte one sounds amazing from your description….it's hard to find full coverage foundations that don't feel heavy on skin.
I'm happy with Tarte, it suits my oily skin. LM is good too. I have been repurchasing this version since I tried it in 2007. It works best with LM face primer (in my opinion).xo
You and I have the same taste in foundation (Tarte and LM are my favourites, too)! I'll have to try Mat Velvet+ too.
Hi Nicole. I am happy to know that. They work best to conceal my flaws. xo
i have tried laura mercier silk cream also but it doesn't work for me well.,same as yours.,
