Promise of 12-hour flawless makeup, who wouldn’t like that? Tarte released Clean Slate primers but I’m torn between poreless and brightening face primer. Ini-mini-myni-mo. Problem solved, moi bought the deluxe primer trio for only $9 at Sephora. So which one deserves a full size repurchase? Let’s get down to ‘biz.
Teeny weeny small all three fit my palm. |
Clean Slate 360 Creaseless 12-hr Smoothing Eye Primer (full size $19, 0.39 oz)
Key ingredients: Beeswax, Vitamin E, Mineral pigments |
This trial size is 0.09 oz, enough to test and say whether it’s yay or nay. The consistency is thin. At first swipe, it appears to be greasy but dries up pretty quickly. It’s smooth and blends effortlessly. My eye makeup didn’t smudge, crease or fade throughout the day. A straight 8-hour of wear, it’s a definite must-buy for me.
Clean Slate Flawless 12-hr Brightening Primer (full size $30, 1 oz)
Key ingredients: Vitamins C,A,E, Mica, Berrybright |
This trial size is 0.25 oz. It’s quite creamy but not greasy. It has a slight citrus scent, oh wait that’s Vitamin C for you. I applied this after moisturizer and before foundation and immediately noticed a luminous finish. Imagine red-carpet makeup ala-J Lo, what with the glowing complexion. I think this would work well for people with dry or dull skin. Experience says dewy ain’t good for oily and open pore- ‘fellas like me. My makeup held up throughout the day with obvious meltdown on the 6th hour. Nice try but I won’t be repurchasing.
Clean Slate Poreless 12-hr Perfecting Primer (full size $30, 1 oz)
Key ingredients: Avocado oil, Echinacea root extract, Hibiscus flower extract, Rosemary leaf extract, Safflower seed oil |
This trial size is 0.25 oz. It has a thick and heavy consistency with recognizable dimethicone smell. I had high hopes for this baby thinking it could really help blur my open pores. For some odd reasons, this pills up as I blend it (same routine: after moisturizer, before foundation), leaving clumps of primer here and there all over my face. Long story short, I’m not buying this.
Tarte is cruelty-free and doesn’t contain parabens, mineral oil, phtalates, sodium laury sulfate and synthetic fragrance.
Luminous or Oily? That’s the effect of Brightening Primer under Tarte Foundation |

That's a great set to try for just $9! The brightening primer sounds good for my dry skin.
Hi Harshleen. I think you'll like the brightening one if you have dry skin. It's like a moisturizing lotion too.
Where do I get the trio together please email me.
Hi there. This is a very old post but I remember purchasing it from Sephora back then.
I like the idea of trying before buying on these, and I love the brightening one! Pretty packaging, too.
Thanks to trial sizes, it saves me both money and time returning mediocre products. xo
