Guerlain Rouge Automatique Hydrating Long-Lasting Lip Color 602 Tonka Imperiale, Review, Swatch, Guerlain Sun Celebration Summer 2014
::    affiliate    ::

July is my birthday month so I have this silly excuse to engage in a lippy haulage. With that said, I hope you don't mind me bombarding you with lipstick postings here and there. After all, my obsession with the little bullet is nothing hush-hush to most of you.

Guerlain Rouge Automatique Hydrating Long-Lasting Lip Color 602 Tonka Imperiale, Review, Swatch, Guerlain Sun Celebration Summer 2014

So let's start the guilt-free spree with Guerlain Rouge Hydrating Long-Lasting Lip Color in 602 Tonka Imperiale ($36, 3.5g /.12 oz). This particular shade is part of Guerlain's Summer 2014 collection (I have reviewed Terracota Sun Celebration Bronzing Powder and Blush here and Terracota Joli Teint here).

Tonka Imperiale is bronzy nude, a great shade for the summer against bronzed skin and/or smokey eyes. Knowing my penchant for bright lippies, I do switch it up to neutrals from time to time to break the monotony. Tonka Imperiale is moderately pigmented with a slight sheen to it. It feels hydrating and soft on the lips without ickiness. Elegantly housed in a gold case, you have to push the embossed slider down to unravel the allure of this mini-luxury. Longevity is about three hours; it doesn't stain lips hence a quick touch-up is necessary.

For comparison, here are side-by-side swatches of Guerlain Tonka Imperial together with some of the neutral lipsticks I have reviewed in the past. The balm-like consistency is similar to Tory Burch Pas Du Tout  but it's sheerer than Hourglass Femme Rouge Vintage and lighter than Givenchy Rose D' Exception.

Do you plan out your birthday look? my lipsticks are probably nervous right now as they vie for The Chosen One title for my big day. Eccentric I know, haha! In the meantime, here's moi parading the nudeness of Guerlain Tonka Imperiale.

Bronzer is a year-round beauty staple for me but summer gets the most use out of it. Depending on the finish and shade, I use bronzer to contour, fake a sun-kissed glow, or even as an eyeshadow.

Swedish brand Face Stockholm has been on my watch list of must-try so when Gilt (invite here) featured it few weeks ago, I caved in. The color I randomly chose was Bronzer 3 Capri, a matte red brown with moderate pigmentation. Worn over foundation, it appeared more orangey-brown to me, something I will probably appreciate when I'm tanning. But as it is now for my medium skin tone, it's borderline oompa loompa for my taste, what'cha think? In the photo below, I brushed Capri on the side of my face hoping to get a chiseled effect but since the color is off, 'thought it didn't look right.

review face stockholm bronzer 3 capri, photos, swatch

Here are side by side swatches of Capri in comparison to some of my favorites bronzers which I have reviewed in the past: Guerlain Terracota, Nars Laguna, Hourglass Superficial Mirage, Jouer Suntan

Ingredients: Talc, Kaolin, Isostearyl Neopentanoate, Zinc Stearate, Nylon-12, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Propylparaben, Methylparaben, Trisodium EDTA. May Contain: Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499).

Despite the fact that I didn't like this particular shade, it won't deter me from exploring the brand further. In fact, my next-to-try are *drumroll*....lippies of course!

Have you tried anything from Face Stockholm? what would you recommend to me?

Disclosure: My Gilt invite has a link which gives you $25 off from your first purchase; it also gives me $25 once the item ships. Of course once you have an account, you can invite your own set of friends. Don't want the referral link? Just go straight to Gilt and discover high-end and luxury items at great discounts. It's addicting, so consider yourself warned!

If there's one thing I am very picky about when it comes to makeup, it has to be eyeliners! For one, I have sensitive eyes and I tear up right away upon contact with an irritant. Secondly, I wear contact lens. I hate pigments that migrate to my contacts because they cloud my vision. L'Oreal Silkissime, e.l.f, Nyx, Laura Geller, Tarte, MAC are just some of the brands I had issues with in the past. That's why I have strong allegiance to eyeliners that are compatible with my peepers. Loyalty = Repurchase.

When Marc Jacobs debuted his beauty line last year, the only product that truly wowed me was Highliner Gel Eye Crayon. It's a retractable, waterproof, long wearing, tug-free, and richly pigmented eyeliner which can also be used as eyeshadow or base. I have reviewed Ro(cocoa) (brown-bronze) and Th(ink) (dark blue). In multiple occasions, you may have spotted Blacquer (black) which I never wrote about until today.

marc jacobs highliner gel eye crayon review, swatch, how to tightline

Blacquer was part of the original launch collection in 2013 and (Luna)tic, along with other bright shades, was released early this year. Blacquer is matte black, I use it mostly for tightlining my upper lash line and occasionally on waterline. (Luna)tic is metallic lavender, a great accent color for the lash line! Both liners are very creamy, they apply easily and blend seamlessly. I hate being echolalic but if it's worth repeating to emphasize a point then I would. These liners are budge-free with impressive wear time (which is pretty much the whole day). They remain intact after an intensive workout, something worth-mentioning to my ladies out there who want to look just as fabulous in glorious sweat! The only con is the rounded tip which in time becomes flat due to constant use. Hence, this is not my preferred liner for creating sharp cat eyes. I know $25 for a single eyeliner is quite a splurge but I put high regard on quality more than anything, especially since it involves my eyes.

So here's moi wearing (Luna)tic on upper and lower lash line and Blacquer on waterline, I also used it to tightline my upper lashes. Still struggling with tightlining? I shared my dummy-proof tricks here.

Sorry for drowning you with macro shots of my face craters. Okay, let's try one more time from a distance. Truth is, I just  want to show my second-day natural hair, haha!

I did mention about workouts, here's moi scouting for a treadmill. Yeah, still wearing the same eye makeup.

P.S. Can you believe I purchased additional shades right after writing this post? Convince thyself was the protocol, lol!

    Do you own this eyeliner?

how to have smooth legs for summer, summer essentials, sexy legs for summer
    |    press sample    |

It's officially summer, ladies! Time to bring out this season's must-haves: tank tops, sunnies, slippahs, bronzer, sunscreen, facial mist, and the chicest pair of shorts! Most importantly, now is the time to show off those gorgeous gams! But first things first, we want to make sure that our legs are uber sexy-smooth after a long period of hibernation. Who's up for the mission? It only takes 3 steps...

    1. Exfoliate to slough off dead skin cells. It's no rocket-science but exfoliating at least twice a week leaves the skin looking smoother and radiant. In the mood for some DIY? I shared a very easy sugar body scrub here

    2. Hair-free legs, here we come! It's no secret that I shave my legs every few days but it can get nasty at times, what with razor cuts! While laser hair removal is a great option, you and I know that it's pricey. Depending on the area to be treated and where you live, it can run anywhere from $300 to $1000 per session. Waxing is also another alternative, that is if you don't mind occasional skin burn and bruising. Another option is using an epilator, a device that mechanically pulls multiple hairs simultaneously. It's like tweezing times 100. Does it hurt? if it's your first time, yes it does but c'mon you survived your childhood immunizations so it should be easy-peasy. I'm not new to epilator so my pain threshold is nil.

Recently, I had the chance to try another brand, the Emjoi eRase e60 ($79.95). It has 60 tweezers, electrically-operated, and travel-friendly. It can be used for legs, bikini line, underarms and facial hairs.

how to have smooth legs for summer, summer essentials, sexy legs for summer, emjoi erase e60 review

Coming from someone who has a lot of hair (coarse for that matter, no thanks to shaving), it took me all of 15 minutes, from legs to bikini line, to remove majority of my hairs. I didn't have irritation or redness but since I have thicker hairs, I missed some areas so I had to re-do everything the following day in broad daylight. Regrowth is relative; booklet says up to six weeks but with me, it's three days. As mentioned, this device is easy to use. Press and slide the button up to select your desired speed: Level 1 for fine hair and sensitive areas, Level 2 for coarse hair. Work in small sections, move it back and forth as you please. For stubborn hair, I recommend holding the skin taut surrounding the area. Got hair in your upper lips? you can attach the "sensitive cover" to  hide some of the tweezers. Brave enough like me? just hold it in an angle so that you are only using few tweezers to pull out those unsightly facial hairs.

    3. Moisturize and glow! Finally, moisturize your legs with body oil or body butter. Faux self-tanner is a nice option but if you just want radiant legs that elicit double take ala- celebrity, use shimmer lotion!

    Do you use epilators?

One of my favorite summer trends is Nautical. It's the easiest to pull off. Stripes, blue, white, red, ocean-themed accessories, I can go on and on but as with anything, overdoing it can pass for tackiness.

For this week's #FaceFriday (where I use most of the products I have reviewed in the past), I focused on my eyes. As you can see from the photos, what I did was basic and pretty much self-explanatory. I used Givenchy Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow Bleu Soie as eyeliner for my upper lash line and Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon Th(ink) for my waterline and smudged it for lower lash line. Both products are dark blue and can be used either as eyeshadow or eyeshadow base.

    Other products used:
Diorshow Fusion Mono 821 Chimere (for eyelids)
Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon Blacquer (tightline upper lashes)
    Dior Addict It-Lash (Deluxe sample)
    MAC Mineralize Blush Warm Soul
    Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick (Liar)

Finally, here are my favorite ways to wear nautical without going overboard. The key is to pick one or two items you can incorporate in your existing wardrobe. Remember, three's a crowd. Ready to sail?

    1. Step in stripes. Depending on your comfort level, wear blue or red stripes shoes. I prefer wedges because they give me the height without compromising comfort!

    2. In tune with tunic. I am a huge on tunics not only during summer but practically year-round. It's versatile, loose, light, and easy to style. Most of the time, I pair it with skinny jeans or shorts.

    3. Bag it. After lipsticks, bags are my next obsession. It's a woman thing! To make your stripes purse "the statement", go monochromatic with your outfit (think denims and crisp white shirt). Of course, I'm speaking based on my personal style. In the end, wear whatever makes you happy.

    4. White shorts. It's the summer so show some skin woman! Leave denim shorts to the teens and wear yours white! Trust me, it's chic and very lady-like in so many ways.

    5. Under the sea accessories. Anchor-themed styles are very predictable so I'd rather incorporate something from the sea. Seahorse or sea turtles are my favorites!

I have brain constipation at the moment, a.k.a writer's block. Like a true incomplete evacuation, my right brain isn't excreting creative juice so instead of straining my mind, why not stimulate it Dulcolax-style, haha! Ick, I don't even understand the involvement of poop here, #sorrynotsorry

Few weeks ago, fellow Beauty Bloggers Honey from Honeygirlsworld and Elvira from Pink Sith did a Beauty Scenario Tag post. I enjoyed reading their responses so I thought of tagging myself *insert sad face here*, lol! From what I understand, this beauty tag is going around in Youtube but since I'm on a filming hiatus, I'll just write my answers. Ready to ramble?

The Questions (some answers are linked to specific reviews)

    1. You have to get rid of all your foundations and you can only keep one high end and one drugstore, which do you keep?

As of this writing, I don't have any drugstore foundation in my stash but if I were to purchase one again, it will be Revlon Colorstay Whipped Cream. I hope the formula is still the same though. As for high-end, I'm currently loving Guerlain Terracota Joli Teint. It's my choice for the summer!

    2. You go for an interview and the lady interviewing you has lipstick on her teeth. Do you approach the subject or ignore it completely?

Tricky question but you know what, "honesty is the best policy" so I will politely tell her that she has lipstick stain. "I hope you don't mind Ms. XYZ but you have lipstick stain (while pointing to my own teeth)". It also breaks the ice, only if she has humor in her bone.

    3. You’re not feeling yourself and need a pick me up. Which lipstick do you put on to make yourself feel beautiful?

This is a tough question because I love all my lippies and I go thru stages of infatuation with each one. But right now I'll go for Bite Beauty Lip Crayon in Grape. If you want to fake the haggardness of it all, I shared my tricks here.

How to: Makeup When You're Sick

    4. You go back in time for a day to your teenage years, how would you do your hair and makeup differently?

I will not change a single thing because it's fun to look back at my stupidity vis-a-vis naivety. Hairstyle you say? I had spikes, tried pixie, did bob, and permed too may times. Makeup-wise, I started rather late (18 y/o) but 90s isn't the same without grunge so yeah, I was a fan of really dark plum lipstick even back then. Feeling some #throwback? Here's moi 20 years ago....

    5. You ask your hairdresser for a shoulder length Pixie Lott hair cut, but they hear wrong and give you a pixi cut. Do you a) Smile, say thank you, leave and call your mum hysterical b) Cry in the chair and things get awkward or c) Complain to the manager and demand a refund.

Didn't I say I used to be adventurous with my hair back then? I will savor the new 'do and wear big hoops! But if there's one humanoid who would be in manic-panic shock mode, it's no other than the hub because he adores my long hair soooo much.

    Still Pixi!!! Paris, France 2001
Who effin' takes photo in the middle of a busy street?!
Stupid things you do when you're young, ugh!

    6. Your friend surprises you with a 4 day city break and you have 1 hour to pack. Which ‘do it all’ palette do you pack in your makeup bag?

My top of mind would be any of my Naked palette but it's not a do-it- all so my new answer is Too Faced A Few of My Favorite Things because it has eyeshadows, blushes and bronzers in one palette. It's not my favorite but it's a smart choice! And oh, I'll throw in three lipsticks: nude, red, purple. In random order, Givenchy Rose D' Exception, Tom Ford Lip Color Sheer Firecracker, Bite Beauty Lip Crayon Grape. My idea of city break is purely outdoors so I hope these friends got it right: swimming, hiking, ATV-ing! So I'm definitely adding sunscreen!!!!

    Kualoa Ranch, Oahu, Hawaii, 2012

    7. Your house has been robbed, don’t worry everyone is safe, but your beauty stash has been raided. What’s the product you really hope is safe?

No-brainer, my lipstick stash!!!!! Do you want to understand this obsession? Read my post "The Lippy Phenomenon"

    8. Your friend borrows your makeup and returns it in awful condition. Do you a) Just pretend you haven’t noticed b) Ask them to repurchase it or c) Secretly do the same to something of theirs.

I'll just give it to her because she's my friend even if she's damn insensitive to return it that way. But in every situation, there's a proportionate reaction so sarcastically I'll tell her "here, you keep it but don't eat it" while pointing to the damage she awfully committed. C'mon girl, you have no right to be offended!

    credit
You, yes you! I tag you even if your brain is not constipated, haha!
