Inside the bag inside the bag. Okay, what I actually meant was what's inside the (makeup) bag that's inside the (messenger) bag.

C'mon admit it, we all want to see what's inside a woman's bag, it's the voyeuristic tendency in us! Few years ago, I was new to company xyz and this biotchie randomly opened my purse and had this to say "what's all these junk in your bag"? I snapped in a flash "oh well, some expensive junk you can't afford". Lo, since then that two-faced colleague became extra-friendly to me. Anyways, let's unravel my junk altogether...

After lippies, handbags are my trivial pride and joy. I try my best to give them equal attention so I rotate my purses on a weekly basis. When the idea of writing "what's inside my bag" popped, Tory Burch Amanda Foldover Messenger Bag is "the IT bag of the week". If you're following me on Instagram, chances are you may have spotted this multipurpose baby several times.

instagram: @thefabzilla

I repeat, multipurpose. While I use it mostly as cross-body/messenger, it's also a tote/shopper bag (unfolded).

Ready for the contents?

I always carry a pair of sunnies to protect my eyes from the glare. Coincidentally, it's from Tory Burch again. Are you getting the vibe that Imma fan?

I love my Onna Ehrlich Bella Wallet, it has 16 card slots (yeah that many), zipper pockets, bill holder, and a wristlet. I wasn't sure with the color but I settled for red because I bought it around Christmas time, what a rationale, haha! I also carry a checkbook 24/7, not that I use it often.

We're slowly getting to the more interesting part....

So inside the bag are two bags: a large Too Faced makeup bag where I keep all these items (my go-to mist at the moment, Josie Maran, Bite Beauty lip crayon (grape), sanitary pad, Ricola case, and a small Clinique bag to hold my lippies)

And now the big reveal... say aloha to my babies (rest assured I rotate them too). For this particular week, these are the lippies yo mama anointed...

inside the bag, what's inside the bag, top lipsticks for summer and spring, radial glmastick, tory burch lip color, givenchy rouge interdit, tom ford lip color sheer, shiseido rouge, bite beauty

(reviews are linked, by the way)
Rodial Glamstick SPF 15 Tinted Lip Butter (Blow)
Tory Burch Lip Color (Just Like Heaven)
Tom Ford Lip Color Sheer (Firecracker)
Shiseido Perfect Rouge
Givenchy Rouge Interdit Lipstick (Enigmatic Rosewood)
Bite Beauty Matte Lip Crayon (Grape)
deluxe sample Givenchy lipstick (Sephora perk)

I know what you're thinking, "girl do you need to carry all these lippies"? a resounding yes! In fact, I invite you to read this post I wrote few months ago "The Lippy Phenomenon", it will exactly tell you the reason blow-by-blow. Not to forget, inside that Clinique bag you will also find a small mirror and oil-blotting sheets.

Okay few more items and we're done... a lonely Ricola candy and hand sanitizer for the germaphobe.

Now that you've seen mine, I want to see yours too so feel free to link your what's inside my bag post, just because.

til next,

If you're a fan of Asian beauty products, then I am more than certain that you're familiar with Japanese brand Koh Gen Do. So far I have tried the Maifanshi Moisture Concealer which was a hit,  and Fresh Face blush, unfortunately a miss. For reference, Koh Gen Do's products are devoid of artificial colors, fragrance, petroleum and mineral oil; they are also cruelty-free.

Not too long ago, HauteLook (invite here) featured Koh Gen Do. Half-awake, the impulsive side of moi triumphed and purchased Maifanshi Mineral Eye Shadow Palette N 302, a limited edition  released last year. (regular retail $59, net wt. 0.18 oz/ 5g).

According to the website, these eyeshadows possess anti-aging properties for a softer and smoother eye area. While it might be true, I wasn't primarily swayed by its promise. You know my stance; aging is inevitable and the fountain of youth remains a myth.

Maifanshi Mineral Eye Shadow Palette N (302) is housed in a clickable, sleek, lacquer-type case. The stunning red top with KGD initials adds a luxurious feel to the palette. The mirror is almost the size of the palette, big enough to use when there's no decent mirror around a.k.a quick touch-ups. It has two double-sided applicators, they're cheapo quality (as to be expected) so straight to trash, no bueno. This particular palette has four shades: copper-bronze, brown, purple, light gold.

Now that you know the nitty, let's unravel the gritty.

Right off the bat, these eyeshadows are sheen and moderately-pigmented so for a more intense look, I recommend applying them wet. The texture is soft and smooth, it's a bit powdery from the pan but still applies seamless. Worn over an eye primer, it lasted nine hours and was completely budge-free. If you're into classic and neutral shades, Koh Gen Do is a nice addition to your stash.

For my eye makeup below, I used all four shades: copper-bronze on eyelids, light gold on brow bone, brown on crease, and purple on outer corner and lower lash line. The barely-there lipstick is also from Koh Gen Do (Maifanshi BE02 Coral Beige).

Do you own anything from Koh Gen Do?

I get it, you like roses. Long-stem, lotion, serum, cream, mist, perfume, balm, the list goes on. I can't blame you, roses to me are quite cathartic and soothing. While I prefer not to be gifted with a bouquet (waste of money), I'll buy anything rose-scented on a whim.

Bite Beauty recently released a limited collection called Deconstructed Rose ($28, 4.35g, 0.15 oz). Available in four shades, I picked up Crimson, a ravishing cranberry which I don't mind rocking year-round.

I am a fan of Bite Beauty lippies because they are truly moisturizing and highly-pigmented (I have reviewed the luminous cream lipstick and matte lip crayon here). The finish and texture of Deconstructed Rose is consistent with the luminous cream line: luxurious, long-wearing and creamy. If there is one stark difference I have to emphasize, that would be the scent. It wasn't called rose for nothing. Yes, it's a strong fragrance that lingers for a while. Since scent is personal and relative, you may bask in all its glory unknowingly annoying someone who finds it a bit repulsive. Well, that is if you care, I don't. I wear for myself.

Here's a swatch of Crimson...

what is facial mist, best facial mists
    | affiliate |

So is facial mist really that necessary or is it another marketing tactic to lure you to spend for a baseless want rather than absolute need? From a beauty enthusiast point-of-view, I say it's a face-saver! First, let's understand the basics.

Depending on the brand, a facial mist is basically water with essential oils and fillers. Of course, the lesser the fillers, the better. Josie Maran Rosey Mist, a current must-be-in-my-bag-all-the-time, lists rose oil and purified water as main ingredients.

I consider facial mist a multi-tasker because I use it to set my makeup, as a toner, as a mid-day glow booster, and whenever I feel like my skin needs extra hydration. And yeah, while writing this post, I just sprayed my face with The Face Shop Cooling Mist (exclusively sold in The Face Shop standalone stores).

what is facial mist, josie maran rosy mist, the body shop vitamin c mist, evian, jurlique mist

I don't know who's that OA lady above but she just confessed that she's addicted to face mist. Here are some must-try's, according to her:

Do you use facial mists? if so, what's your go-to brand?

I won't deny that this whole blogging thingimajig expanded my beauty arsenal like I'm running a hole in the wall store. Our bathroom alone has all sorts of skincare and bath products that will probably last me over a year, #noshame

This leads me to my next point; the way I wash my face varies from time to time depending on the product(s) I try. Cleansing brush, cream facial wash, clear facial wash, face foam, konjac sponge, exfoliant, the list goes on #fact

For today's post, let me introduce you to Beautisol Exscrub Me? Citrus Face Exfoliant ($17, 2 fl oz/ 60ml).

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Polyethylene (Beads), Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Jojoba Esters (Beads), Behenyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Cetyl Alcohol, Dicaprylyl Ether, Glyceryl Stearate, Sucrose Stearate, Xanthan Gum, Titanium Dioxide, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Lonicera Caprifolium (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Squalane, Citrus Tangerina (Tangerine) Peel Oil, Lonicera Japonica (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Citric Acid, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil*, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Water, Potassium Sorbate, Carbomer, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Tocotrienols, Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Oil, Phytic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Alcohol, Tocopherol (D-alpha), Passiflora Incarnata (Passionflower) Flower Extract *Certified Organic

In a nutshell, Exscrub Me? is an exfoliant with micro-beads that help slough off dead skin cells. Just so you know, I exfoliate only twice a week because doing it excessively does more damage to our skin, i.e redness, irritation, dryness.

Unlike other exfoliants I have tried, Exscrub Me?'s beads are dense and quite abrasive so if you have sensitive skin, you have to be very careful scrubbing your face. A pea-size amount is good enough for my face. I usually pay attention around my nose where I have whiteheads the most. I like the citrusy scent and the overall feel of my face after rinsing: taut, smooth and refreshingly clean!

If you're into #faceexfoliant , Beautisol is running a Buy One, Get One with coupon code BOGO2014 (valid until June 31, 2014).

Last week, I talked about expanding my bright lipstick stash by branching out more to purples. Like pink, nude and red, this hue can be interpreted in hundred and one ways. So while browsing Walmart's beauty aisle few days ago, I can't help but be entranced by these Milani pretties.

From the Lip Intense Liquid Color line, 04 Violet Addict ($6.49, 0.20 fl oz/ 6ml) is a liquid lipstick which is surprisingly nondrying. I say so because my experience with liquid lippies (i.e. Hourglass, YSL, Kat Von D) is borderline lackluster. Violet Addict is purple-pink. The pigmentation is indeed shockingly-intense and the color you see from the packaging is pretty much consistent with the inside. It is shiny like a lipgloss sans the tacky feel. It also has a decent wear time of about five hours. I just wish the applicator bends so it conforms to the shape of my lips for a more precise application.

    milani violet volt, review, swatch

Next is Violet Volt ($5.49, 0.14 oz/ 3.97g) from the Color Statement Lipstick collection. This shade is deep purple with frost finish which is perfectly wearable anytime, any day. But see I'm a woman who breathes bright lips so take my word with a grain of salt. Are there even rules with lipstick shades these days? Geez, wear whatever makes you happy! I had about six hours of wear time, and that's in between coffee and water sips. It has a fruity scent which isn't overbearing. Generally I'm not a fan of frost lippies because they look dated but surprise, surprise, Violet Volt is a game changer!

I'm into makeunder these days so save for YSL BB Cream, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder (diffused light), Cover Girl Mascara, and groomed brows, I have but a bold purple lippy to complete my look.

Have you tried any of these Milani eye candies?

Happy Aloha Friday, beauties! It's time for another #FaceFriday feature. This week, it's all about drugstore brands. Whether you're a makeup noob, pro MUA, brand snob, there is that drugstore brand you are curious to try or swear by. So without further adieu, here are the products I used for today's #fotd (some reviews are linked)

best drugstore makeup, spring 2014 makeup, budget-friendly makeup

Elf Mineral Infused Face Primer : nice quality for dirt-cheap price
Elf Flawless Finish Foundation: not a favorite because it does oxidize fast
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer: great for dark under eyes
Elf Transluscent Mattifying Powder: a tad chalky but good enough to set foundation

Elf Mineral Eyeshadow Primer : performs just as good as Urban Decay primer potion
Elf Cream Eyeliner Teal Tease (lower lash line): made my left eye teary-eyed
Loreal Silkissime Eyeliner Highlighter (water line): contact lens wearer beware: this transfers to contacts making your vision cloudy. I had to take off my lenses at work, shoot!
    Covergirl Bombshell Volume Mascara

    NYX Matte Lipstick Strawberry Daiquiri

Have you tried any of these products?

    it's the same woman, 'yo!

I'll keep my intro short and sweet this time. Chitchat is our mid-week break from product reviews. It's when I share a piece of my mind from the most mundane to overly dramatic women's dilemma. No holds-barred here so chime in.

I am more than certain that I wasn't the only humanoid who was pleasantly surprised with Nicki Minaj's understated look last weekend at the MTV Awards. Her red carpet photos dominated all of social media and while I wasn't a fan of her music, I like the less than garish a.k.a makeunder outcome. Beautiful and flawless, #girlcrush here.

Pre-Nicki, we've seen Spooki, I mean Snooki Polizzi graduate from Oompa Loompa scare to the fabulous woman that she is now. Add Christina Aguilera and Katy Perry to the growing list of celebrities who wittingly chose the project makeunder road. Now whether that's a smart career decision or not, still it's a breath of fresh air to see these girls looking more natural once in a while.

Makeup is an art, therefore it has no rules. It's a form of personal expression so I'm not here to say what is wrong and acceptable. And just so you know, I road test each makeup in all of my reviews even if it means rocking neon pink lips or dark smokey eyes in scrubs! Sometimes patients ask me what lipstick I'm wearing but probably most of them think who the hell is this RN walking like a painting, hahaha! In pretty normal days 'tho, I keep everything simple.

Not being a complete hyprocrite here but honestly, I do get distracted with over-chiseled/ contoured face, uber caky foundation and over-emphasized brows (I'm talking about concealing eyebrows 3 or 4 shades lighter than skin color). I've seen some I secretly wish I can do a makeunder with, not because I'm a  nosy ass stickler but it's just that "less is definitely more" sometimes. I know, I know, it's none of my goddam business. Pardon my french, 'told ya this shit is unedited. I love makeup but I'm not afraid to embark on a makeunder101.

    What about you?

how to get sandal-ready feet, sandal-ready tips for summer, how to get rid of callus
    | sample sent for review |

Living in the tropics, you can correctly assume that sandals dominate my shoe collection. When I feel like adding few inches to my petite stature, I wear wedges. But in most days though, I prefer flat sandals that expose my toes and ankles. Comfort before anything else babe!

This leads me to my next point, my precious feet need to look just as fabulous! Overkill, vain, OC, call me whatever you want but I seriously dread cracked soles. So whether you're prepping up for summer or just want to be sandal-ready anytime, here are ways to keep your feet in tiptop shape.

    1. Exfoliate to slough off dead skin cells.
If you prefer simple DIY, mix olive oil and brown sugar to create a moisturizing foot scrub. Here's a tutorial if you're interested.

Now if you want spa-quality pedi at home, Emjoi Micro-Pedi Nano ($24.95) maybe your answer.  I received one to try out. In a nutshell, it's a sleek, compact home pedicure tool that painlessly removes dead skin cells and calluses. It has a micro-mineral roller that spins 30 times a second that pulverize rough skin. I was honestly surprised with the amount of flecks this tool generated, considering that I take care of my feet on a regular basis!

emjoi micro-pedi nano, at home pedi, sandal-ready for summer, tips
It requires two AA batteries. Very easy to use and ideal for travel too!

Here's a before and after photo of my feet. It's not rocket science but offhand, you can tell that "after" looks obviously smoother.

how to get rid of dry cracked soles, callus, how to get sandal-ready feet

    2. Moisturize with cream. Make it habit to moisturize your feet after shower and before you call it a night to prevent dry cracked soles. Do this religiously and your feet will thank you.

    3. Paint your toes bright! Call me partial but whenever I see a woman with great-looking pedi, I immediately think that she does take care of herself. It's the little things, mind you. If you're like me who prefers DIY, just soak your feet in warm water for five minutes, towel-try, remove old nail polish, cut and/or file nail, then paint to your heart's desire!

    4. Have fun with sandals. Bling, thong, leather, rubber, jelly, they all come in gazillion styles and colors. Remember, happy feet, happy life!

How do you take care of your feet?

I have a penchant for bright bold lips. I mean, it's the easiest no-fuss makeup any time, any day. Believe me when I say that you can totally skip eye makeup and still look effortlessly fabulous. Through the years, I have amassed and fallen in love with every red or pink shade out there, and to be honest, it can get pretty boring too. So to spice up my trivial grievance, I am stealing Daryl Dixon's crossbow to hunt for the next best purple lippy in puckerland

If you're a Sephora hardcore customer then you won't miss Bite Beauty's standalone shelf. The display is not ostentatious but the vast array of lipsticks is enough to entice this lippy junkie! So while browsing for new releases few weeks ago, I was enthralled to find these beauties!

best purple lipstick, bite beauty luminous creme lipstick violet, how to wear purple lips

Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick ($24, .15oz/ 4.35g) Violet is magenta violet. It's very hydrating, opaque in one pass, goes on smooth like a lip butter, a tad shiny, and renders impeccable six-hour wear time. It does stain the lips which maybe a nuisance to some or an advantage to us women-on-the-go (a.k.a no time to retouch).

The main selling point of Bite Beauty is the inclusion of antioxidant resveratrol in the ingredients which claims to fight free radicals with anti-aging benefits. According to the website, Each Bite lipstick contains the same amount of resveratrol found in five glasses of red wine. What the heck is aging? I know I stopped counting the years, haha!

5 Mg Trans-Resveratrol: From vitis vinifera and polygonum cuspidatum.

bite beauty matte lip crayon, best lip crayon

Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon ($24, 0.05 oz) Grape is purple. It's semi-matte and like the creme lipstick, it is opaque in one pass and unequivocally moisturizing. Matte lippies tend to emphasize my lip lines but not this. I smell a hint of citrus which I like! It also stains the lips and I had five to six hours of wear time. Between the two, I honestly like the formula of this lip crayon better so a repurchase is definitely imminent.

Organic Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil**, Acacia Decurrens Wax*, Jojoba Wax*, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Wax*, Polyglyceryin-3*, Polyhydroxystearic Acid*, Organic Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)**, Organic Cera Alba (Beeswax)**, Silica*, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Wax*, Coco-Caprylate*, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax*, Natural Flavor*, Tocopherol*, Trans-Resveratrol*, Vitis Vinefera (Grape) Vine Extract*, Siraitia Grosvenorii (Monk Fruit Concentrate)*. For comparison, here are swatches of Luminous Creme Lipstick (Violet) and Matte Lip Crayon (Grape):

Just so you know, I purposely omitted blush, bronzer and eye makeup (save for mascara and BB cream)  to prove the point of a fuss-free makeup with bright bold lips.

Bottom line, if you're looking for bright purple lippies that are worth every penny, these are absolute must-haves for spring and summer.

What about you? what's your favorite purple lipstick?
