Low maintenance zilla. Believe it or not but when it comes to my hair, I'm pretty much the wash-and-air-dry type. My grandma used to tell me to never sleep with wet hair or I will get sick. But what can I do I'm so exhausted from work I just want to hit the sack after shower. So yeah, the photo you see on the left is the morning after a.k.a #ireallywokeuplikedis

I'm a staunch believer of "prevention is better than cure". While I'm no way a poster child for all things fitness, I really do take care of myself by engaging in a healthy and active lifestyle. In case sickness strikes, I have but natural forces to blame. I mean, nobody's invincible but at least I tried!

I treat wrinkles with the same attitude. If I can delay the occurrence, why not?! While I still experience breakouts here and there, my main concerns at this stage happen to be pore size and maturing skin. You know the equation well, where A=B. In my case A= aging B= unknown, in reference to the ultimate fountain of youth.

Once an acne-ridden duckling. I have suffered from acne for as long as I can remember. And yes, it did affect my self-esteem when I was a teenager. The night before our senior high pictorial, I was looking at the mirror and cried in silence "why me? why do I have all these zits?" I've always felt alienated because my friends were blessed with beautiful and flawless skin.

Was it a face with acne or acne with a face? So Ms. Whitehead and Mr. Blackhead inaugurated Zitville, and around it they scattered oil and drilled craters. Humor became my outlet in dealing with this curse, after all what would self-pity do? With my wallet drained, no thanks to uneventful treatments, I accepted the fact that even in my adult duck years, acne is etched in my destiny.

fitness and lifestyle, staying fit, how to, cute workout clothes

Last week, I showed you my most used beauty products this past summer, sort of a last hurrah as I welcome Fall with open arms. Today's post is a sequel to that but I am going to share my highlights, fitness and lifestyle-wise.

Finally after one million light years (translated to turtle-slow-over-three-weeks-in-transit), Dominique and Catherine arrived, desperately seeking for their mama's interminable love and attention. Impatient mama welcomed both dehydrated babies with mixed emotions: glad that they are home but swearing in high notes never to order again direct from NARS website. Boy at this day and age, any big time company that utilizes Smart Post isn't smart. And please, Hawaii is part of the United States, ever heard of USPS flat shipping rate? #endrant

Hello zillas! First a quick introduction on who we are....The Beauty Council is a new group of beauty and style bloggers with the aim of bringing you the best in makeup and fashion trends, hottest scoop and fabulous finds. Twice a month, we will collaborate and feature certain looks and/ or challenges to spice up our content vis-a-vis readership.

Today we decided on VMA 2014 makeup looks. I'm an avid JLo fan so it was an easy choice for moi. Plus I don't even know who these new celebrities are; if not for Google, I would think of Iggy Azalea as another fad diet. Ugh, this woman is freakin' old!

Jennifer went for smokey purple-taupe-ish eyes, pink nude lips, subtle pink cheeks, and sun kissed complexion. You can see my inspiration here.

Here are the products I used to recreate J'Lo's makeup (reviews are linked):

Jennifer Lopez VMA 2014 Makeup, How to, Smokey Eyes

For my face, I mixed my favorite bronze foundation Guerlain Terracota Joli Teint (Moyen) with a lighter shade from Estee Lauder Double Wear (Intensity 2.0) to achieve that subtle sun-smooched effect.

To camouflage dark under eyes, I used NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer and set it with BECCA Boudoir Skin Mineral Powder.

For my eyebrows, I used Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade.

For my eye makeup, I started with NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, followed with Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Diapason as base.

Looking for the perfect purple-taupe eyeshadow turned out to be quite a challenge. Good thing, I found a close dupe, it's Bluff from Too Faced A Few of My Favorite Things palette. I applied it on my eyelids and blended it out past my crease. I also used the same shade for my lower lash line. I applied Pure Glam (metallic black) on the outer corner and Coquet (holo gold) near my tear duct. I highlighted my brow bone with Cream Colored Peonies, all from the same palette.

To continue, I lined my waterline with Rimmer ScandalEyes in nude, tightlined my upper lash line with Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Blacquerapplied two coats of Hourglass Film Noir Mascara on my upper lashes, and Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara for my lower lashes.

For my cheeks, I used NARS Orgasm. To contour and highlight, I used my current go-to Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow.

Finally the lips... it's YSL Rouge Volupte Shine 8 Pink in Confidence.

I am officially over summer. Getting sick thrice over the entire course of summer is no joke. Right at this very moment, I am sweating worse than a pig and my pits are burning like hell. That is why I can't wait for Fall and feel human again.

Pass no judgement because in light of my so-called tribulations, I found my pseudo-therapy with Tom Ford Lip Color 31 Twist of Fate and 30 Negligee, both new releases for Fall 2014.

Tom Ford Fall 2014 Lip Color, 30 Negligee and 31 Twist of Fate, Review, Swatch, FOTD

30 Negligee is deep rose brown with creamy texture and shine finish. Consider it your new nude lip: neutral with an attitude, just like that soft-spoken girl who swears big time when hangry (angry when hungry).

31 Twist of Fate is peachy coral, it's also creamy and quite luminous. She's that girl who march to her own drumbeat. For one, who wears coral when plum seems to be the trend for Fall?

Tom Ford Fall 2014 Lip Color, 30 Negligee and 31 Twist of Fate, Review, Swatch, FOTD

Consistent with earlier releases, these splurge-worthy lippies look and feel luxurious, from the signature dark brown/ gold case to engraved initials to formulation, I can't find a single flaw to downplay and make you think otherwise.  But at $50 a tube, you and I know that we pay for the name first, quality comes second. Which brings me to my next point: these lipsticks are hydrating, opaque in one pass, and wears decent (five hours sans meal).

So which one are you? soft-spoken who swears when hangry?

Sonia Kashuk 15th Anniversary Limited Edition Professional Brush Set, Review, How to apply makeup like a pro

Right off the bat I'll tell you now, get this brush set before it's gone! At $39.99 ($45+ in Hawaii), this is the best limited release I have ever purchased from the Sonia Kashuk line . A Target exclusive, I was more than ecstatic to see this set, the one and only up for display on that fateful Saturday morn'. Serendipity, who knows.

In a nutshell, this set contains 15 brushes which makes beauty routine easy peasy for the lady, noob or not:
    1) Powder brush
    2) Blusher brush
    3) Duo-fiber buffing brush (for foundation)
    4) Synthetic angled multipurpose brush (best for foundation)
    5) Contour brush
    6) Foundation brush
    7) Concealer brush
    8) Blending brush
    9) Crease brush (my #1 favorite)
    10) Small eyeshadow brush
    11) Fluffy eyeshadow brush
    12) Precision smudge brush
    13) Synthetic angled liner brush (best for eyebrows)
    14) Smudge brush
    15) Spoolie

Sonia Kashuk 15th Anniversary Limited Edition Professional Brush Set, Review, How to apply makeup like a pro

How can you not love the burgundy handle and purple bristles? all of them are surprisingly soft and the overall quality are indeed comparable to high-end labels! No exaggeration...

    brushes for the face
Sonia Kashuk 15th Anniversary Limited Edition Professional Brush Set, Review, How to apply makeup like a pro
    brushes for the eyes

I've been using these brushes for over two weeks now so I thought of showing you how I use them in my day-to-day makeup application. Get ready with me in ten minutes, promise!

Sonia Kashuk 15th Anniversary Limited Edition Professional Brush Set, Review, How to apply makeup like a pro

    1) For BB cream and/or foundation, I prefer using the synthetic angled multipurpose brush. It allows me to seamlessly apply and blend the foundation and since it's a bit angled, it's easy to get around the corners of my nose and under the eyes.
    2) To mask the dreaded dark circles, I used the small concealer brush for application.
    3) After that, I used a flat foundation brush to blend as it covers a much wider area.
    4) While letting the foundation/concealer to meld into the skin, I tackled my poor eyebrows with the angled liner brush.

Sonia Kashuk 15th Anniversary Limited Edition Professional Brush Set, Review, How to apply makeup like a pro

    5) Let's continue with the eye makeup. Today I decided to start with my crease. This Sonia Kashuk crease brush is my favorite eye brush to-date. It's great for us ladies with monolids. The size is small yet dense enough to locate and define the "missing" crease.
    6) And then I used the flat eyeshadow brush to pack on eyeshadow on the lids.
    7) Another favorite from the set, I used the fluffy blending brush to blend and buff, what else.
    8) To highlight my brow bone/ arch, I used the thicker eyeshadow brush.

Sonia Kashuk 15th Anniversary Limited Edition Professional Brush Set, Review, How to apply makeup like a pro

    9) I brushed my eyebrows using a spoolie.
    10) Struggling or afraid to poke your eyeballs? I shared some tips on tightlining here.
    11) With the small smudge brush, I applied dark eyeshadow on my lower lash line.
    12) Then I lined my water line with ultra-black eyeliner.

Sonia Kashuk 15th Anniversary Limited Edition Professional Brush Set, Review, How to apply makeup like a pro

    13) Then I set the concealer and BB cream with finely-milled powder using powder brush.
    14) Lashes are boring without curls...
    15) And a coat or two of black mascara.
    16) Then I applied bronzer to warm my ever so dull face.

Sonia Kashuk 15th Anniversary Limited Edition Professional Brush Set, Review, How to apply makeup like a pro

17, 18, 19) I used the large powder brush to apply bronzer on the side of my face and under the jaw.
    20) What is makeup sans lipstick. 'Nuff said.

    Voila!

    Popsugar Must Have Box Review
complimentary box was provided for review by Popsugar; all opinions my own as usual!

If you're a subscription box aficionado, you may already know Popsugar Must Have Box. Unfamiliar? it simply is a monthly subscription box with products curated by Popsugar editors. At $39.95 per month (shipping included), you receive full-size items ranging from beauty to fitness to kitchen categories. Consider it a box-full of girly surprises. Some you never thought of buying until you open your box and utter "oh yeah I need this!". For the month of August, the inspirations were summer night outs, beach days, sweet smells, and sexy skin.

Minor leakage. Part of the box was wet because the shower gel caps were not tightly sealed. Trivial but I had to mention it for transparency. Also I received two shower gels, probably an honest mistake for all you know.

In no random order, here are the items I received for review and feature purposes.

    Popsugar Must Have Box Review

The Mason Jar Cookie Company Cookie Mix (retail price $12). This is a pre-measured baking mix so you only need to add butter and egg to bake the perfect cookie. HubZilla is a sucker for cookies so I am saving this for him.

    Popsugar Must Have Box Review

Lollia At Last Perfumed Shower Gel (retail price $22). I love Lollia even back then. It's the delicate upscale sister of edgy Tokyo Milk and uber trendy Love and Toast, all created by marketing genius Margot Elena. Like lipstick, you can never have too many shower gels in your bathroom so an addition of one (or two in this case) won't hurt, haha! I like the delicate feel of this shower gel, the scent is a tad strong but overall tolerable. I intentionally skipped applying body butter after bathing just to test if it will dry out my skin. Thankfully, it didn't so it's a keeper baby!

    Popsugar Must Have Box Review

Goodbyn Meal and Dipper Set (retail price $8). Whether it's for you or your kiddos, this meal set is a good alternative to Tupperware. I pack lunch to work so this comes in handy. I like that it's dishwasher-safe and compact so I'll give it two thumbs up.

Paddywax Ocean Tide + Sea Salt Mini Jar Candle (retail price $10). If you like sea breeze fragrance then this handmade soy wax candle is right up your alley. I'm the type who lights up a candle in the kitchen for that cozy ambience, what about you?

    Popsugar Must Have Box Review

thinkThin Brownie Crunch High Protein Bar. 230 calories, 20g protein, 0g sugar, not bad for a quick snack post-workout or mid-day break. It tastes good so a repurchase is definitely happening.

    Popsugar Must Have Box Review

Kendra Scott Elisa Necklace in Black Cat's Eye (retail price $50). Simple yet classy, that's my kind of accessory. The chain is 14k gold over brass with adjustable lobster claw closure. This happens to be my #1 favorite from August box.

Bite Beauty Lush Fruit Lip (retail $22). Exclusively made for Popsugar in celebration of Must-Have's second birthday, this pink lip gloss has strawberry, coconut and avocado oils to help nourish the lips. It's pretty much established on le blog that I'm an avid fan of Bite Beauty lipsticks (check out my rave reviews here, here, and here) so when I say that this lip gloss isn't all that jazz, take it with a grain of salt, after all you may be into lipgloss more than I do. For the most part, it has something to do with the smell which comes off as borderline old. But then again, it's just me and my sensitive nose.

Bottom line, August Box is fine and dandy but I've seen better products featured in prior months. If you like surprises and variety, PopSugar Must-Have is worth checking out. Save $10 on a 3 month-subscription with coupon code AUG14SELECT, from today to 9/10/14 (I don't earn commission from this).

Finally let me end this post with a pic of moi wearing Kendra Scott necklace and Bite Beauty lip gloss.
