I'm all about minimal makeup for spring and summer. Add the fact that I'm always rushing in the morning so the more multi-tasking a product is, the more I am inclined to using it every way possible. With a recent stellar experience with Guerlain Terracota Sun Celebration Bronzing Powder and Blush, I am piqued by another Guerlain beauty, Terracota Joli Teint ($53, 30ml/ 1 fl oz). Sold in five shades, I settled for Moyen or Medium.
So is it a tinted moisturizer, bronzer, foundation, sunscreen, primer? let's probe further.
What the website says: "A formula that combines the perfecting power of foundation with the comfort of a beautifying texture, providing a radiant, healthy-looking finish. This lightweight formula gives skin an instant touch of summer, leaving behind a perfectly radiant glow. It contains nourishing natural ingredients which counter the visible effects of fatigue, reviving dull skin for an even complexion. Each shade is designed to work as a base prior to your Terracotta Bronzing Powder to create a flawless, customizable tan for every skin tone ".
Ingredients (Active): Octinoxate 3.99%, Titanium Dioxide 4.38% both used for sunscreen.
Inactive: Aqua, Methyl Trimethicone, Alcohol Dimethicone, Isododesane, PEG-9 Polydimethysiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Acrylates/Dimethicone Copolymer, Diphenyl Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone/Silsesquioxane Crosspolymer, Glycerine, Aluminum Hydroxide, Stearic Acid, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Phenoxyethanol, Glyceryl Undecyl Dimethicone, Sodium Myristoyl Glutamate, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Sodium Chloride, Propylene Carbonate, Parfum, Chlorella Vulgaris Extract, Diamond Powder, Benzyl Salycylate, Linalool, Tropaeolum Majus Extract, BHT, Ethylhexylgkycerin, Tocopherol, May contain Cl 77891 (titanium dioxide), Cl 77492, Cl 77491, Cl 77499 (iron oxides).
It comes in a plastic tube with built-in pump for easy dispensing. There is a subtle floral fragrance (a signature scent in most Guerlain products) which dissipates after few minutes. Swatched, Moyen looks a bit darker than what a true medium is...
Unperturbed, moi knows I can work this shade out. After all, I plan to self-tan in time for summer. So to answer the question I posed above, yes this bella is a lightweight foundation, sunscreen (SPF 20) and primer which gives a sophisticated sun-smooched complexion. The finish undergoes two phases: it is matte when you first put it on, then it becomes dewy after an hour or two. If you have normal or dry skin, you can skip setting it but if you have oily or combination, I suggest using a finely-milled setting powder so you don't alter the intended effect of this foundation. The manner of application is personal, either you use your fingers or foundation brush; either way, it blends easily. The wearability is about seven hours and I had to blot my face once throughout the day. It didn't oxidize on me so with that said, I am happy to add this foundy to my summer arsenal!
Here are photos of me without makeup (except groomed brows), with Guerlain Terracota Jolie Teint (Moyen), and finally my everyday minimal makeup....
