In time for the holidays, cult-favorite STEAMCREAM released Christmas-themed tins that are perfect stocking stuffers! I received Holly ($20, 75ml), isn't it the cutest present?

What's in a name? STEAMCREAM is an all-in-one-cream that uses high-quality natural ingredients fused together by a shot of steam. This method makes the cream very lightweight. It can be used for face, hands, and body. Everything is handmade in the UK and Japan. All their tin designs are limited edition so if there's something that totally speaks to you, I say get it before it sells out. STEAMCREAM does not test on animals.

Ingredients: Oatmel infusion, Orange blossom water, Almond oil, Cocoa butter, Glycerine, Stearic acid, Triethanolamine, Jojoba oil, Lavender oil, Chamomile blue oil, Orange blossom absolute, Rose absolute, Neroli oil, Stearyl alcohol, Coumarin, Geraniol, Citronellol, Limonene, Linalool, Perfume, Methylparaben, Propylparaben

Holly smells lavender. It's quite strong initially but the scent dissipates as it gets absorbed into the skin. I use it mostly on my hands and feet just before bedtime. I like the tin for its reusability, I will use it to store my hair ties and pins.

Have you tried this brand yet?

Truth # 1: The holiday season brings out the best in everyone. Truth # 2: The holiday season pushes makeup companies to be more creative, packaging-wise. Truth # 3: The holiday season is the best time for makeup junkies to hoard without guilt.

Still part of my Sephora VIB guilt-free haul, Too Faced A Few of My Favorite Things ($56, Sephora) features twenty eyeshadows, two blushes, two bronzers, chevron-print makeup bag, full-sized lip tint, and deluxe-sized mascara.

Like how can you not drool over this spectacle of a palette?

It's going to be a swatchfest, y'all ready?

Let's go to color description, quality, and finish of these eyeshadows....

Snowflakes is metallic champaign, very chalky with fallout issues.
Cream Colored Peonies is matte off-white, a tad powdery.
Coquet is sheen pink-champaign, it's great for highlighting.
Tinsel is metallic rustic gold (one of my favorites).

Whiskers on Kittens is matte flesh with gold overspray
Honey Honey is metallic gold (another favorite)
    Taffy is sheen light pink
Buff is sheen gray/mauve/purple (again a favorite)

Chocolate Milk is matte light brown, it's a good shade for the crease
Buche de Noel is metallic bronze-brown
Crisp Apple Strudel is metallic light brown
Ooh la Orchid is matte purple, it's chalky!

Moon on Their Wings is light gold, it's very chalky and gritty!
    Evergreen is sheen olive green
    Woolen Mittens is matte brown
    Party Time is sheen blue/purple/gray

Dark Chocolate is matte dark brown, it's great for eyebrow and tightlining
Blue Satin Sashes is dark blue with gold specks, it's powdery!
Soiree is matte maroon with gold specks
Pure Glam is matte black with silver specks

Here are the blushes and bronzers up close:

Raindrops on Roses is shimmery pink
Chocolate Soleil is matte brown (it smells cocoa)
Melt into Spring is matte peach
Sun Bunny is half light bronze and half dark bronze, both shimmery

When you name a product "Better than Sex", it has to be really better than the real thing right? You know this zilla's going to take it literally, haha! Oh well, it failed in the pleasure department. It's nothing but a chunky mascara with big bristles and thick formula.

left with mascara; right au naturel

Another miss is the Lip Injection Color Bomb (Bee Sting). It's supposed to be s moisture plumping lip tint. It didn't do anything but give moi nude lips. It smells fruity and nice but that's about it.

While there are some misses on this set (which I kind of expected for holiday releases), it remains a nice holiday present to yourself or bestie. I love Chocolate Soleil bronzer so I'm going to buy a full-sized version next time!

Finally, here's my Face of the Day wearing some of the eyeshadows, blush, bronzer, lip injection, and mascara.

Melt Into Spring (blush), Chocolate Soleil (bronzer)
Lip Injection, Better than Sex mascara
Tinsel on lids, Buche de Noel on crease
    Evergreen on outer corner
Cream Colored Peonies on brow bone
    Dark Chocolate on eyebrows
Evergreen and Woolen Mittens on lower lash line

    What's you favorite holiday palette?

    Kathryne

How much are you willing to pay for a makeup brush that promises to do all? Would you toss all your makeup brushes in favor of one?

Purported to be a true multi-tasker, BECCA The One Perfecting Brush ($49, Sephora) promises to simplify our makeup routine. It can be used as foundation brush, powder brush, contour brush, bronzer brush, stipple brush, blush brush, fan brush, concealer brush, kabuki, and sponge.

I received this brush for review purposes. I won't deny, I was thrilled to the core while unboxing it!

The bristles are dense and ultra-soft.  They are non-porous and made from high quality goat hair which  allows the product to sit on top of bristles rather than absorbing. The construction is rather unique compared to traditional makeup brushes. It has a flat edge with flexible bristles that conform to every corner and angle of my face.

So how do you use it? (sourced from Sephora website)
    With foundation:
Using the broad side of the brush, sweep foundation horizontally across forehead and then move to cheeks and chin. Finish by sweeping vertically down the nose using the narrow surface of the brush.

    With highlighter:
Using the narrow surface of the brush, sweep illuminator down the tops of cheekbones and down the bridge of nose.

With mineral bronzing powder or contour enhancer:
Using the narrow surface of the brush, sweep brush under cheekbones, down sides of nose, and around temples.

    With blush or beach tint:
Using the corner of the brush, buff into apples of cheeks using a circular motion and blend out.

Sephora produced a video featuring Becca Style Director Kerry Cole, you can watch it here if you want a more in-depth tutorial.

Ever the experimental, moi went ahead and used this manna- of- a brush from priming to contouring.

As a primer brush, my face primer applied evenly.
As a foundation brush, my face looked airbrushed.
As a contour brush, it created more depth and dimension.
As a blush brush, it imparted a beautiful cheek color.

This is how the brush looks after all that's been said and done:

The skinny. As with any brand new brush, there was little shedding here and there (mostly filler hairs). The size is also good for travel. I wish that it can stand on its own or has a compact case for storage. While it did an awesome job from priming to highlighting, I'm not ready to say au revoir to my beloved makeup brushes. Not just yet. But I will continue to use it for foundation and bronzer!

    What's your go-to makeup brush?

    Kathryne

ADDENDUM (1/11/14): After 1.5 months of using this brush, I regret to say that the shedding issue has progressed from bad to worst. I hate that the hairs are all over my face each time I buff and blend! Au revoir to this brush.

This is probably the 566669900000451237th time I'm going to write about my oil machinery of a fezz! It's no joke when you're in your 30s and still besieged with grease and acne. But see I'm not hating because oily skin has its advantage too, delayed wrinkles y'all (*twerks*).

If you have the same greasy icky dilemma, then you know that makeup hardly stays without a face primer. That's why I'm always on the hunt for the next best thing in makeup and skincare. Rouge Bunny Rouge is a new brand to me so while browsing Beautyhabit few weeks ago, I thought I'd try the Metamorphoses Mattifying Primer ($44, 29ml).

Ingredients: Aqua, Silica, Nylon-12, Octyldodecanol, Limnanthes Alba Seed Oil, Glyceryl Stearate, Peg-100 Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Cera Alba, Allantoin, Glycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Methylparaben, Tetrasodium Edta, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Propylparaben, Isobutylparaben.

This primer is housed in an elegant glass bottle with pump dispenser. According to the website, it's a face, eye and lip primer in one. So if you factor in the $40+ tag, it seems like a great multi-tasking product. But did it deliver?

As  a face primer, one pump (pea sized) is enough to cover my face. It is lightweight and feels like a luxurious moisturizer. It instantly mattified my face but didn't blur out pores. Following my normal makeup routine (tone, moisturize, prime, apply foundation, set with powder), this primer's mattifying prowess lasted six hours.

As an eye primer, the wear time of my eyeshadow was rather short-lived. On the fourth hour, I had creasing issues.

Bottom line, nice try but I won't repurchase. Those who shy away from parabens won't like this either, it's loaded if you read the ingredients carefully. However this experience won't dissuade me from exploring the brand, in fact I have another review coming up so stay tuned beauties.

    til next,

    Kathryne

It's not the red lipstick that gives me a well- rested aura. It's not the champagne eyeshadow that brightens my eyes. It's not the newly-released perfume that perks me up. So what's the secret weapon then? Shhhh, between you and me, it's the concealer!

Still part of my VIB Sephora haul, Cover FX Cream Concealer ($27, 0.33 oz) is a recent discovery full of ahhhs and ooohs! For one, I have never owned a Cover FX product before so when I swatched it in-store, I was instantly impressed with its lightweight yet creamy texture. Available in twelve shades, I settled for G Light, which is two shades lighter than my medium skin tone. (Following its color coding, G refers to golden undertone, P for pink, N for neutral).

Ingredients: Aqua, Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Diethylhexyl Carbonate, Glycerin, Cetyl PEG/ PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Squalane, Triacontanyl PVP, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Tribehenin, Sorbitol/Sebacic Acid Copolymer Behenate, Fluorphlogopite, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Ethyl Linoleate, Ethyl Linolenate, Ethyl Oleate, Bisabolol, Magnesium Sulfate, Tocopherol, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Lauroyl Lysine, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Xymenynic Acid, Phytosphingosine, Disodium EDTA, Xanthan Gum, Ceramide 2, PEG-10 Rapeseed Sterol, Tin Oxide, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide MAY CONTAIN Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Chromium Oxide Green (CI 77288)

Does not contain: Parabens, Sulfates, Synthetic Fragrances, Synthetic Dyes, Petrochemicals, Phthalates, GMOs, Triclosan

First let's talk about the packaging. I like that it comes in an easy-squeez tube. I don't like when I dip my fingers in a palette for obvious sanitary reasons. Second, value for money. You only need a tiny dot (not even a pea size) for both under eyes. Third, like I said, it's really creamy without the heavy-feel (of course that would depend on how much you load up). Fourth, I had no creasing issues (again if you don't pile unnecessarily). Just so you have an idea, this is how I conceal the haggardness of it all. Say hello to the fez!

As you can see, I have uneven skin tone and dark under eyes. And even if I applied foundation, those dreaded dark circles are still noticeable. Now look at the difference between my left under eye versus right. You can already tell that my left side looks more "awake", that's where G Light concealer was lightly applied. On both sides, hideous circles are gone mama! My final step to concealing is to seal it with a finely-milled powder. Again, lightly dust with a small brush to prevent caking.

Why don't we finish the look? Here's the end result:

With this positive experience, you know I'm going to try other Cover FX products!

    What's your go-to concealer?

    Kathryne
