I can't think of any product that is as glorified as the ole' bronzer during summertime. From runway to your neighborhood, you see girls rockin' bronzed skin. Makeup, spray, lotion, high-end, drugstore, they're all over the place, enticing you and me to buy that promise of sun-kissed perfection.

So how are you wearing your bronzer? Or more succinctly, where else do you use it? I don't know about you guys but I consider bronzer an unsung multi-tasker. Have you ever thought about these?

Shimmer bronzer applied on the eyelids. It makes your eyes glow ala- J Lo, seriously.

Matte bronzer for eye crease. It creates depth and defines your crease in a subtle way.

Shimmery golden bronzer for legs. It slims your legs when buffed from the bottom of your butt cheeks, down to the center of thighs, legs and around calf muscles.

Matte bronzer for instant boobage. With a contouring brush, apply bronzer in between your breasts to fake ample cleavage.

The key is to use matte for contouring and shimmer for highlighting. Needless to say, you have to choose a bronzer that compliments your skin tone; your safest bet is one or two shades darker. Stay away from anything orangey or you risk looking like Oompa Loompa #nobueno

My current go-to matte bronzer is Hourglass Superficial Mirage. You can find my review here, in case you are curious.

    Makeup of the Day: LORAC TAntalizer on eyelids;
KORRES Monoi Oil bronzing powder on crease
Hourglass Superficial Mirage on face "classic 3" application.

    'til our next beauty fix,

Yep, I can't believe it either. Our master bathroom is becoming more and more spacious, thanks to my ever disciplined subconscious self who constantly nags whenever the conscious impulse button is up. You guys know that it's hard to pass up when you are a certified beauty hoarder!

So this so-called subconscious self is happy to share what she has used up down to the last drop!

Shave thy hair. As if it's one hell of a great deal but I have been shaving my legs since time immemorial. I have tried epilator, wax, and light-based but I always go back to drugstore shaving creams like Pure Silk. It's affordable and leaves my skin smooth albeit temporarily.

I've heard nice things about Yes to product line so when I saw Yes to cucumber hair shampoo and conditioner at 50% off from TJMaxx, I knew I had to try it. It claims to be all-natural, paraben-free and safe for color-treated hair. While I like the fresh cucumber scent, it did nothing to my hair. No, let me rephrase that: my hair isn't as soft and manageable as I expected it to be, boo!

PUR Attitude purifying rice face wash is a soap-free cleanser with micro beads for gentle exfoliation. It's all-natural and has sodium hyaluronate which makes the skin supple and moist.

Makeup wipes are a must-have for me. Burt's Bees and Botanics (a recent fave) are both affordable and gentle enough for sensitive and acne-prone skin.

Now that you know what I have used up, mah conscious self is now itching to throw this plastic bag with all these products sitting in the bathroom.

What are your current product empties?

    Kathryne

Back to Aulani Disney. Today I met my grade school BFF who made Hawaii her yearly R & R destination. So it's been three years in a row now, her kids grew but she looked the same #foreveryoung. And yeah, Facebook reconnected us after twenty years or so of nothingness. It's amazing how technology can rekindle friendship like ours!

This coconut tree is a witness to our juicy stories. Not for the faint of heart definitely, hahaha!

    And the outfit of course!

On our way home, I had to give in to my donut cravings. C'mon, it's the weekend, my cheat day!

    Have a fabulous weekend!

One common question I still get from friends (and readers) is how to make makeup last all day. And if you are cursed with oily skin, you know exactly what I mean. You start out fresh only to look like a sweaty pig few hours later. You see my tips are nothing carved in stone; in fact some of you maybe doing it already. But in case you're still looking to solve your beauty dilemma, I hope this helps you.

Always start with a clean face. CTM or Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize. Then POSS.

    1. Prime. Use an oil-free and non-comedogenic primer. The more multi-tasking a product is, the less product you pile on your face. bareMinerals Primetime is a primer and pore minimizer in one. MDSolarSciences Mineral Screen tinted gel SPF 30+ is a sunscreen, primer, and pore minimizer in one.

    2. Oil-free foundation. Choose a foundation that is lightweight, oil-free, and preferably with matte finish. Again, the more multi-tasking a product is, the the less crap you pile on your face. Ergo, your skin breathes better. tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hr full coverage foundation has SPF 15. Hourglass Immaculate liquid foundation dries to a matte powdery finish.

    3. Set. Set liquid foundation or concealer with powder. Again, choose something that is light and non-comedogenic. Lightly dust powder over your face. One or two rounds should be enough or you end up looking cakey. My recent go-to is Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder.

    4. Spritz. Once you're done with your face (blush and bronze if you must), spritz makeup setting spray about 6 inches away from your face.  In my experience, a toner works just as good as a makeup setting spray like Skindinavia. I prefer to use rosewater to give me a very mild dewy finish.

    Apply mascara and lippy. #fin

Do you have any tricks to share?

    Kathryne

I am literally sweating as I write this post. With the fan blowing behind me, hair up in a messy bun, wearing tank top and shorts, can you tell summer is here?! Which brings me to my next question: do you change your makeup routine for the summer months? I sure do!

For one, I skip full coverage and opt for barely-there powder foundation. Most days my eye makeup is pretty simple, some days I wear bright lipstick. So here are my summer staples:

    1.  MDSolarSciences Mineral Screen Tinted Gel SPF 30+. This is my holy grail sunscreen to date. I like that it is all-natural, doubles as makeup primer, and blurs my pores. How's that for multi-tasking?

    2. Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer. Not the best concealer on earth but it does the job of brightening my under eye area. I like to set it with Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder.

    3. I was not a fan of Laura Geller Balance-N-Bronze initially. But the more I use it, the better I appreciate its ability to warm my dull face. This is what I wear in lieu of full coverage liquid foundation.

    4. Hourglass Superficial Waterproof Bronzer is a recent favorite. I like that it's matte- perfect for contouring and/or creating that sun-kissed look sans the shimmer!

    5. You're a certified makeup junkie if you have NARS Orgasm Blush, correct? This is one shimmer I actually like especially during summer. Its peachy pink color goes well with anything. Dramatic, low-key, it's so versatile.

    6. Kat Von D is one of my favorite eye primer. It performs better than Urban Decay.

    7. Recently I reverted to using Everyday Minerals eyeliner/brow kit. I like how my brows look more natural; plus the staying power is way better than eyeliner.

    8. Milani Shadow Eyez 12-Hour  Eyeshadow (champagne toast) can be worn alone or as base for eyeshadow.  I prefer the latter method to intensify my eye makeup. I also use it to highlight my  inner eye corner or brow bone.

    9. Pur Minerals Mineral Shadow Gold Dust is what I wear for a clean yet glowing eye makeup for summer. It's also office-friendly, so to speak.

    10. Prestige mascara is an unsung hero in my makeup arsenal. It is affordable and it separates my lashes just as nice as high-end brands.

    11. A lipgloss or any bright lipstick within reach.

    12. Then finally, I set everything with Botanics Rosewater Toning Spritz 100% Organic. It's another multi-tasker, a toner and setting spray in one!

Now that you know what I use and wear on a daily basis, care sharing yours?

  • In my Hello Kitty So Kawaii OOTD post, some of my close friends noticed how firm my legs were. I have nothing but pure exercise(s) to thank for. I have shared my renewed passion for hula hoop here and leg-butt toning exercise there. Add hip hop dance and you're in for a whole new set of legs in time for the summer lady!

I have also added a new routine to my workout. My ever fit hub said that I try ankle or wrist weights so in my recent trip to my local sports store, I bought the adjustable 5 pound-set; plus a jump rope, a new pink water jug, and some mesh tank tops. It's a woman thing- can't evah leave store with only one item, argh!

sorry for the pic quality, I just used my phone.

I have also purchased new set of workout clothes from HauteLook, it's from the brand Marika. I like the capri for its tummy control feature but I'm not impressed with the sports bra. While it fits like a glove in front, the back part is squeezing me.

    Curious about my green meals?

That green sandwich wrap is my typical lunch! It's basically whole wheat soft tortilla with lots of spinach, pesto spread, few strips of turkey, and a sprinkle of italian or feta cheese. Yep all of that yumminess under 200 calories! Sometimes I make salad by mixing organic greens with greek yogurt, sauteed shrimp, mushroom and bell pepper (I use EVOO), crumbled feta cheese and balsamic vinegar. Nom to the nth power!

While I'm still debating on the perfect juicer, moi and hub are enjoying Naked juice. Have you tried it? The formula is a 'lil thick to my liking so I add ice and some water. It tastes good!

What about you? do you have fitness goals or tips you want to share?

Here's a a quick summer eye makeup for dummies. No, I don't mean to insult anyone. It's like the "dummies" self-help series book. So no pun intended, entiendes?

If you're like me who's always rushing getting ready for work or you're noob to the whole makeup thingimajig, playing up your waterline with bright summer colors can instantly transform your face from drab to fab. And believe me when I say that you can achieve this cuteness in under five minutes. In fact this has been my go-to eye makeup the past week.

    1. Apply eye primer. With the hot weather, you don't want your eye makeup to melt.
    2. Apply your favorite neutral eyeshadow on eyelids.
    3. Line your upper lash line (or lower) with black eye pencil.
    4. Line your lower lash line/ waterline with bright eye pencil. Seal it with the same shade of eyeshadow to prolong the makeup.
    5. Finish with two coats of mascara.

See you're done in a fart. That fast, hahaha!

    xo,

    Kathryne

Loose Waves. Beach Waves. Summer Waves. Victoria's Secret Waves. Kim K Waves. Whatever you want to call it, waves are waves and they are particularly popular during the summer.

Truth be told- my hair has natural but lifeless waves. And in days I want to look a bit more polished, I  use curling iron. I chanced upon this curler at HauteLook not too long ago. Normally retailing for $220 (or $150 at Ebay or Amazon), I purchased mine for $50+. A great deal since I don't have any clipless curler yet.

So let's cut to the chase. But first I had to mention that the hot pink iron and glove combo is so moi!

It heats up fast, easy to use, controls frizz, and has dual voltage (great for travel). The size of the barrel (25/32mm) gave me the beach waves I so desire. The glove is a nice addition and I highly encourage that you use it if you are new to clipless curling. The top temperature of this barrel is 450 degrees fahrenheit. Burn is no fun beauties.

Now here's what I don't like: it has only one control setting, super hot that is! For an expensive tool like this, I expect more features. i.e beeps when it's ready to use, interchangeable barrel size, etc.

The proof is in the curling so here's the before and after...

Before is my out-of-bed hair a.k.a au naturel.  You can see that it's flat on the top with frizzy demi-waves at the tips.
After is vava-vooom with more volume and clearly defined waves. To make the curls last longer, I spray and scrunch 'em with Curl Booster finishing spray.

I can't decide what to call this hairstyle but since it's summer and I live close to the beach, why not name it.....

Do you like clipless curler like this?

    Nothing to disclose

Imagine you're somewhere in the tropics, sippin' some fresh coconut juice, baskin' in the sun, flippin' magazines. Ah the ultimate summer vacation!

Coconut = Summer. Is it just me? This recent obsession for all things coconut-ish is no longer a coincidence. Look, I smell coconut from head to toe!

    Let's start from my hair...

I bought this Alba Botanica Hawaiian Shampoo and Conditioner combo at Target. If you're new to Alba Botanica line, it's noteworthy to mention that it's 100% vegetarian, cruelty-free and is devoid of artificial colors, parabens, pthalates and sodium lauryl sulfate. Here's a quick list of ingredients for your reference:

    Shampoo:
Aqua (Water), Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Glycerin, Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, Sodium Chloride, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil (1), Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (1), Ananas Sativus (Pineapple) Fruit Extract (1), Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract (1), Carica Papaya (Papaya) Fruit Extract (1), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Extract (1), Macrocystis Pyrifera Extract, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Extract (1), Babassu Oil Polyglyceryl-4 Esters, Citric Acid, Dimethicone, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Panthenol, Sodium PCA, Sodium Phytate, Sodium Sulfate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Alcohol (1), Benzyl Alcohol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Benzyl Salicylate, Coumarin, Fragrance (Parfum).

    Conditioner:
Aqua (Water), Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil (1), Behentrimonium Chloride, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Amodimethicone, Aleurites Moluccana Seed Oil, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil (1), Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil (1), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (1), Ananas Sativus (Pineapple) Fruit Extract (1), Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract (1), Carica Papaya (Papaya) Fruit Extract (1), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Extract (1), Macrocystis Pyrifera Extract, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Extract (1), Citric Acid, Glycerin, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Panthenol, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Phytate, Alcohol (1), Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Benzyl Salicylate, Coumarin, Fragrance (Parfum).

Did you see pineapple extract? Good! because the scent of this hair combo reminds me of pinacolada! It's so tropical-smelling I can't get enough of it.

Okay, it's time to moisturize my body.

I have reviewed this body butter from Victoria's Secret no too long ago. Sunkissed is one of the eight luminous body butters from the Pink line. It smells like coconut with a hint of vanilla. It's quite thick but not greasy.

Of course, my lips need to be hydrated as well.

This coconut roll-on lip balm from The Body Shop is a recent find. I think the rollerball adds a fancy feel to it. It has no cooling-effect but it definitely moisturizes my lips day and night.

So let's spritz some of that coconut scent baby! Lately, I have been wearing this body mist to work....

The past days had been very humid so I skip wearing perfume and opt for mist. This Coconut Body Mist is so light and refreshing, I can spritz a million times!

Some days I go for Bath and Body Works Aruba Coconut....

What about you? what's your favorite summer fragrance?
