  • Next to brown, my favorite smokey eyes rendition would be gradient purple. Meaning, varying purple hues either in intensity or color. I try to keep it subtle for my day job by applying and blending the eyeshadow light-handedly and by smudging the eyeliner pencil along my upper and lower lash line. I also skip cat-eyes and opt for nude lipstick for a softer look.

For this face of the day, I used my less than stellar Marc Jacobs 202 The Tease Eye Con No. 7 Plush Eyeshadow Palette. A more detailed review can be found here

    // Klout Perks //

If you're on Klout, I bet you have also received Eclos as part of your perks. But before we get to the review portion, let me quickly explain what Klout is.

Klout is basically your standard of influence via your social media. You sign up and link all your social media accounts i.e Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, etc. The more interactions, likes, or comments you received from your social media, the higher your score gets. If your score meets the minimum requirements of participating brands, you get perks like these Eclos products. You don't need to blog your experience, simply share your feedback thru Klout website and blast it in social media. Yeah, that simple. Curious about Klout? here's my profile so you have an idea

Now on to the review. I would be honest, I'm completely clueless about Eclos; never heard of it, never seen it before. The only thing I recognized when I received the products was the "Freeman" logo printed on the box. Freeman is a popular drugstore brand, particularly in the facial masks category. I personally use their cucumber facial peel-off and clay mint masks every once in a while.

Based from the company's website, Eclos caters to women who are concerned about aging and wrinkles. Formulated with Apple Stem Cell Technology extracted from a rare Swiss apple (which has been documented for its longevity and nutrient value), Eclos helps control wrinkles. It is free from parabens, synthetic fragrance, dyes, mineral oil, and petrolatum. Eclos does not test on animals.

So let's start with the Skin Prep Cleanser ($14.99, 6.8 fl.oz/ 200 ml).

    Ingredients:
Water/Aqua/Eau, Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Acrylates Copolymer, PEG-18 Glyceryl Oleate/Cocoate, Glycerin, Cetyl Alcohol, Malus Domestica Fruit Cell Culture Extract, Lecithin, Xanthan Gum, Aesculus Hippocastanum (Horse Chestnut) Seed Extract, Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Camellia Oleifera Leaf Extract, Curcuma Zedoaria Leaf Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Symphytum Officinale Leaf Extract, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Amyris Balsamifera Bark Oil, Aniba Rosaeodora (Rosewood) Wood Oil, Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, Cymbopogon Martini Oil, Elettaria Cardamomum Seed Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Palmitoyl Glycine, Glycol Stearate, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sorbic Acid.

It's a mild cleanser with citrusy-herbal fragrance. One pump is enough to wash my face. Although it says AM + PM in the packaging, I use it mostly in the mornings. Call me weird but I associate citrus or juicy scent with "waking up". But that's just me.

After I'm done with toning, I proceed with moisturizer, sunscreen, then makeup primer. Yeah, in that order. So it's great to know that Daily HydraPrimer SPF 30 does all three things in one tube ($15.99, 1.0 Fl oz, 30ml).

    Ingredients:
    Active Ingredients:
    Zinc Oxide (14.0%)
    Titanium Dioxide (4.0%)
    Inactive Ingredients:
Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Silica, Vinyl Dimethicone/Methicone Silsesquioxane Crosspolymer, Nylon-12, Polyglyceryl-3, Polyhydyroxystearic Acid, Isodecyl Oleate, Malus Domestica Fruit Cell Culture Extract, Lauryl PEG-9 Polydimethylsiloxethyl Dimethicone, Hydroxypropylcocoate Peg-8 Dimethicone, Aesculus Hippocastanum (Horse Chestnut) Seed Extract, Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Camellia Oleifera Leaf Extract, Curcuma Zedoaria Leaf Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Symphytum Officinale Leaf Extract, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Amyris Balsamifera Bark Oil, Aniba Rosaeodora (Rosewood) Wood Oil, Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, Cymbopogon Martini Oil, Elettaria Cardamomum Seed Oil, Lecithin, Aluminum Hydroxide, Dimethicone, Glycerin, Sodium PCA, Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Soybean Oil, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Water (Aqua), Mica, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tocopherol , Xanthan Gum, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Salicylate, Citronellol, Iron Oxides (CI77491, CI77492, CI77499).

My favorite among the set, this 3-in-1 multi-tasker product is tinted; again, it smells so citrusy without the distinctive sunscreen scent. It's a bit creamy and applies smoothly. It does blur pores which is always a good thing.

Finally, we go to Moisture Therapy Regenerative Cream ($24.99, 2.0 fl oz, 60ml)

    Ingredients:
Water/Aqua/Eau, Glycerin, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Dimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Glyceryl Stearate, Polysilicone-11, Palmitoyl Glycine, PEG-100 Stearate, Malus Domestica Fruit Cell Culture Extract, Aesculus Hippocastanum (Horse Chestnut) Seed Extract, Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Camellia Oleifera Leaf Extract, Curcuma Zedoaria Leaf Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Symphytum Officinale Leaf Extract, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Amyris Barsamifera Bark Oil, Aniba Rosaeodora (Rosewood) Wood Oil, Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, Cymbopogon Martini Oil, Elettaria Cardamomum Seed Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Sorbitan Stearate, Nylon-12, Silica, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Polysorbate 40, Isohexadecane, Ammonium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Polyacrylamide, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Laureth-7, Xanthan Gum, Lecithin, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Disodium EDTA, Carbomer, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sorbic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide.

As the packaging suggests, it's intended for morning and night. While I found it to be lightweight despite the creamy formulation, I had to stop using it after one use. Why? the citrusy fragrance is so strong that it seriously gave me headaches, no bueno. Scent is relative though so I will leave it at that. Your nose knows, eh?

Like I always say in all my skincare/ anti-aging posts, the fountain of youth remains a myth. You and I will get wrinkles eventually. Everybody gets old. But not everyone age gracefully.

Where to buy? Freeman website, Ulta, Walgreens

Hi! my name is Kathryne, and lipstick is my dope. Gimme some duck face girl if you're one with moi!

Hey! I'm Kathryne again, and I'm never satisfied with a red lipstick. Cool, warm, real red, berry, brick, I have to try it all. Shameless, I am.

Like how can I say no to this magnificence of a beauty?

Encased in a soft leather and mirrored tube, Givenchy Le Rouge Intense Color Sensuously Matte Lipstick ($36, Sephora) definitely speaks to a modern and fashion-forward woman. It spoke. I listened. I purchased. I was smitten.

308 Rouge D' Exception lipstick is a limited edition and part of Givenchy Fall Winter 2013 Soir D' Exception Makeup Collection. It is described as warm berry but on my lips it appeared more of brick red, which is my kind of shade anyways. It is semi-matte, very creamy, and not drying at all.  One swipe swept me off my feet, it is very pigmented to the nth degree! Wear time is about six hours (no eating involved).

Let me warn you though, prepare to be stopped by like-minded women and get asked what's on your lips. It's an attention-grabber, I tell you. Or maybe I just wear mine so darn heavy and bright in broad daylight. Oh well, red lips don't care.

    What's your favorite red lippy?

  • What is it about candles and makeups? I mean, most women I know that are into makeups adore candles too. A gurl thing perhaps?

A ring in every candle, no kidding. So when folks from Diamond Candles contacted and asked me if this is something my readers will like, I said yes. Makeups and candles, they exist in a fabulous woman's world.

Say that again, a ring in every candle? Yep, worth anywhere from $10 to $5000, these rings are the unique selling proposition of the company, alongside its all-natural soy ingredient.

So how do you get the ring out of the candle? Burn and let it melt of course.

Much as I am excited to see the mysterious ring, I let the candle melt on its own. After all, patience is a virtue. I chose cupcake scent. It is lightly fragrant and sweet, as to be expected. So after 20 hours (or total of 5 nights, at 4 hrs burn-time each) , the ring was finally revealed!

Use a tweezer to take it out from the melted wax

Dainty isn't it? I don't think it's worth $5000, not even $100. But it's the thought which counts. With that said, this candle ring makes a nice present to your bestie or sissy!

I just wish the ring was adjustable though as it won't fit with my Thumbelina fingers.

Curious about Diamond Candles? You can buy here ($24.95)

Love candles? Win and pick your fave scent by entering this giveaway. Open to USA residents only, and you must be at least 18 years old. Runs 8/25/13 to 9/8/13. Winner will be contacted via email. Diamond Candles will ship your prize.

Yes, you can create classic smokey eyes with only one eyeshadow. This time I chose dark brown because it's universally flattering. Wear it subtle for your day job or go dramatic if you say so. Guess who's a major fan of brown smokey eyes? Who else but HubZilla, he thinks it's sexy and mysterious!

For this tutorial, I used LORAC baked matte eye satin eyeshadow in Social. Last time I checked it's already discontinued but feel free to use any dark brown eyeshadow from your stash.

    1. As in always, start by priming your eyes. It makes your eyeshadow last and appear more vibrant.
    2. Pat dark brown eyeshadow on your lids. Intensify as you desire. I did about 4 rounds for this look.
    3. With a fluffy crease brush, start to blend and buff, bringing it up to the crease. The goal is to create a gradient effect, darker on the lids and a bit lighter on the crease.
    4. With a smudge brush, line and smudge lower lash line with the same dark brown eyeshadow.
    5. Tightline upper lash line with black eyeliner. Check out my quickie tutorial on how to tightline here.
    6. Line waterline with black eyeliner for a dramatic effect.
    7. Curl lashes and apply two coats of mascara. Falsies are optional.

What's your favorite smokey eyes look? Find inspirations from these fabulous beauty bloggers, yay!

Before I throw 'em away, let these beauties do their final catwalk. Ladies, sashay!

Some kind of pearanormal activity happened with my mane with this gud shampoo and conditioner combo ($7 each). Not a typo error, that's the variant name; but if real paranormal happens to be this amazing, then let the infestation begin. I can't help but sniff my hair all the time! Drugstore brands rarely make my long hair soft and manageable but gud is oh-so-good, I'm going to buy it for good, period

I've mentioned Victoria's Secret lemon escape in my Top 10 Most Loved Products This Summer. How I wish the EDT came in a bigger bottle because it's all gone in two weeks, yeah I'm that obsessed! The sugar body scrub is also a favorite, it's abrasive enough to exfoliate but not to the point of scraping your dermis, haha!

I've reviewed Ageless Derma Stem Cell and Peptide Anti-Wrinkle Cream, I like that it's moisturizing sans the greasy feel. Moreover, I was happy that it healed my dry outer eye corner!

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster is another serum I have tried. With aging comes serum, ouch! But seriously, I have read rave reviews about it so I was happy when I got it as part of my Clarisonic purchase back in December. It's packed with Vitamin C which makes it a must-have it you are dealing with lines and wrinkles.

Burt's Bees Sensitive Facial Cleanser and Burt's Bee's facial wipes were impulse purchase. But I like that both of these are fragrance-free and dermatologist-tested.

Like I said in my previous "empties post", I hoard Bath and Body Works shower gel like there's an apocalypse coming. They're affordable and fragrant, it makes bathing even more refreshing.

What about you? Any recent empties worth sharing, lady?

    Oh nails, you've been missed!
I can't even recall the last time I posted my nails here. And so? *raises eyebrow*

While my cuticles won't solve national issues, let it be known anointed citizens of nailandia, that makeup brand Prestige has expanded its product line via its WonderGloss Nail Lacquer collection!

Currently sold on PrestigeCosmetics.com for $3.95 each, this collection has 27 shades. I was sent Saucy (opaque pinky red) and Scarlet (metallic ruby red).

    SAUCY
    SCARLET

Coverage-wise, both yielded true-to-bottle shade on one coat. Saucy applied smoothly and it lasted four days before I noticed minor chipping. Scarlet is a bit thicker in consistency, hence the "bubble" effect (see above photo). Both lacquers stain nails so I highly recommend a base coat. But other than that, I'd say these nail polishes are worth a try! I hope they find their way to drugstores pronto.

Have you tried Prestige lacquer yet?

                                                                                                                         //PR Sample //

For someone who lived her life practically dealing with the notoriety of zits and visible pores, being acne-free for three straight weeks is one helluva huge deal. Hormonal changes? Probably. Skincare miracle? who knows.

When I received FutureDerm Vitamin CE 16 + 2 Serum for review, I wasn't expecting a lot. I mean, I know it's a serum that has Vitamins C and E, plus caffeic acid. I didn't read what the ingredients are supposed to do for my skin. In short, I just let my entire experience speak for itself.

Oh it's thick and tacky, will it make my oily skin even oilier? that was honestly my initial reaction. But being your adventurous human guinea pig, I bit the bullet and just went on with it.

The proof is in the bottle.
It's really concentrated and can get messy!

It's sticky compared to other serums I have tried. It has a mild citrus scent which is invigorating. I attempted using it for daytime (under moisturizer, before primer & makeup) but I found it a bit longer to get absorbed onto the skin (I'm always rushing in the morning so every minute counts). Not to be deterred by this trivial concern, I decided to use this exclusively at night. So here goes my regimen: cleanse, tone, this serum, then moisturizer. It's noteworthy to share that during the first week I used this, my three huge zits are already in their dry stage. And if you are no stranger to acne like myself, you know that the next challenge is to lighten those dark spots. On my second week, I noticed that these spots have lightened. Third week, they're almost gone. So what could've been the reason for this skin transformation?

FutureDerm Vitamin CE 16 + 2 Serum ingredients:
Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone Crosspolymer-3, Ascorbic acid, Dimethicone, Bis-vinyl Dimethicone/Dimethicone copolymer, Tetrahexyldexyl ascorbate, Tocopherol, Caffeic acid.

For reference, Ascorbic acid is Vitamin C (antioxidant); Tocopherol is Vitamin E (antioxidant); Caffeic acid is an antioxidant found in many plant including coffee beans. FutureDerm has 16% Vitamin C and 2% Vitamin E, thus the brand description CE 16 + 2. The micro-encapsulated Vitamin C is designed to continuously nourish the skin of Vitamin C  for up to eight hours.

I'm sure you know that Vitamin C has numerous documented benefits on the skin, including brightening age spots and firming skin; Vitamin E protects the skin from signs of aging; while Caffeic acid helps reduce puffiness under the eyes. Science has the facts, my face has the proof.

When it comes to skincare, I don't promise that the same great results will happen to you but if you are to base it solely from my experience, I am more than glad to have fed my skin with FutureDerm. *throws confetti*

Where to buy? FutureDerm website ($89, 1 fl oz/ 30 ml). Free shipping when you use the code fabzilla.

I'm feelin' some kind of Laura Geller. Baked, fresh, marble, nom! Nope, I'm not talking about cookies. In case you don't know yet, Laura Geller's claim to fame is her baked makeup collection, all made in Italy. She's a QVC fixture so if you are beauty junkie, I am 1000% sure you know the brand probably more than I do.

So here's a glimpse of what I used for today's infamous FOTD:

Let's start with this Balance-N-Brighten Foundation Regular SPF 15. My face is unbelievably devoid of nasty zits the last two weeks (testing out a new skincare product, watch out for it!) so I have been really wearing it light, makeup-wise. This powder foundy gives me the barely-there look a.k.a au naturel. Look at the swirls, don't they remind you of marble cake?

Next up, Blush-N-Brighten Apricot Berry. It's quite shimmery so I am very careful not to overdo my blush, face craters do care! Again, the pan looks as delish as a strawberry birthday cake.

Enough of the tempting food associations, so here's the eyeshadow up-close (Eye Rimz Baked Shadow Bewitching Bronze). Except for the brown liquid liner, I only used this eyeshadow for my lids and crease. Yes, it's possible to do smokey eyes with only one eye makeup.

Now the lips sealed in Mocha Mauve.
