Press Sample

Rejoice makeup aficionados, we have new products up our alley! Professional Makeup Artist and Product Development Expert Eddie Funkhouser launches Eddie Funkhouser New York to address the masstige (mass-slash-prestige) market or consumers who desire for that high-end feel at affordable prices.

To achieve his vision, Eddie Funkhouser partnered with retail giant Rite Aid Stores for the initial launch at their Potomac, Maryland location. The line will be available online beginning Spring 2013 and in all Rite Aid stores nationwide by Fall 2013. The price range is anywhere between $9.99- $19.99.

I was sent some products to try and now I'm ready to share my thoughts with y'all. Let's start with my top favorite, the Ultra Definition Eye Lining Stylus.

Ultra Definition Eye Lining Stylus, 0.8ml/ 0.02 fl.oz, Absolute Black

Claims: " It's a felt tip eyeliner that provides effortless and precise application. It is long-wearing, does not fade or smudge and intensely pigmented".

I say yes to all! Creating cat-eye was a breeze (of course it takes practice if you're a noob), it didn't irritate my eyes and most of all, I didn't have unsightly smudging or fading throughout the day. (For reference, I wear makeup 12 hours in most days).

Another interesting item is the Quattro Variable Lash Mascara....

Quattro Variable Lash Mascara, 7ml/0.2 fl.oz, Absolute Black

Claims: "It's an innovative adjustable application mascara that provides varying effects for stunning, full natural looking lashes. It has a dial wand that features four different levels of application. It has buildable formula with lengthening capacity. It's also clump and smudge-free".

Per instructions, each FX dial creates your desired lash effect:
* Natural-looking
** Separates lashes creating fullness and volume
*** Separates lashes for extra fullness and volume
**** Maximum length, separation and definition
The photo above demonstrates what happens to the wand as you crank it: the bristles rotate and tighten as you go from * to ****

Cranked up to Level 4 y'all
I like vavavooom lashes so I like to crank it up between 3 to 4 levels. For this exhibit photo, you can see my boring lashes coated with the blackest black ink possible in level four. While this mascara didn't really lengthen my lashes (or at least create an illusion of it), you can tell that there's some kind of volume eh? One thing I can vouch, it didn't smudge the whole time I was wearing it! (about 12 hours of wear).

Finally moi got to play with some eyeshadows- the Hyperreal Eye Color Palette in Eye Candy.

Hyperreal Eye Color Palette (Eye Candy), Net wt 4 x 2g/ 0.07 oz

Claims: " It's a vibrant, fashion-forward eye color palette. It provides variable coverage, extended wear, silky texture in trendy colors. It's creamy, long-wearing and budge-proof". Available in four palettes, I got to try Eye Candy!

Clockwise from top left:
Love Bug: Shimmer pastel pink
Sugar Pie: Shimmer frost white
U Rock: Iridescent pastel lavender
Tweet Me: Pearlescent pastel sky blue

Swatched sans primer

First, don't they scream spring to you? This eye palette is housed in a plastic case that opens up from the left side. I had to say it because you and I are used to traditional palettes that clicks from bottom-up right? It doesn't have a mirror or sponge tip applicators but really it's no big deal as I hardly use 'em anyway.

Applied damp and over eye primer

Right off the bat, these eyeshadows are best applied damp, with an eye primer, and under a metallic base to achieve uber vibrance otherwise you are left with a sheer wash of color. But it all boils down to preference right? Except for Sugar pie that's powdery, the rest have creamy texture. My favorite is Tweet Me, I use it mostly on my lower lash line (over teal eyeliner) for that cutesy pop of color.

Love Bug on lids, U Rock on crease,
Tweet Me on lower lash line (smudged over teal eyeliner)

Overall, I am thrilled to have discovered this new makeup line. I like that Eddie Funkhouser's products are cruelty-free and affordable. The stylus eyeliner is one of the best drugstore brand I've tried. Needless to say, I can't wait to try his other palettes, primer and foundation!
