What are you plans this weekend? I dyed my hair dark brown yesterday (gray hairs comin' out, sigh). I might do some retail therapy and pick up my free b'day gifts from Sephora & Starbucks. Born on the 4th of July, that's moi. Yay for free fireworks! Here are posts worth checking out:

I'm no drugstore snob but the only foundy that worked well with my oily face was Revlon Colorstay (the original bottle version). My gripe with it though is that it takes some kind of skill to get used to it ~ it's thick, dries fast, and has a tendency to over-dry my greasy skin at mid-day (there must be something with it that over sucks my sebacious glands).

nuevo. New. Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Makeup caught my eyes as I was browsing the beauty section of Walmart. This retails for $10.94 (price may vary). I picked up True Beige (330), the shade closest to my medium/warm skin tone.

I'm not a big fan of lip stains as they're quite unforgiving to those with dry and cracked lips. I have tried Revlon's balm + stain before and it was the most horrible with a capital H. With all the buzz circulating in the beauty community about Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain, I convinced myself to buy it. Maybe it'll change my perspective on lip stains. Let's see.

To date, 225 precious lives have been saved by LA Love and Leashes. The sad part, LA's first non-profit animal shelter is in danger of closing if they won't be able to renew their lease by July 1st. Spread some love by attending this special event....

The Dog Mama in me bleeds each time I see furry babies going homeless. For more details on this benefit event or how to donate, visit LA Love and Leashes here.

love and kisses,

Sircuit Skin Cosmeceuticals, a cruelty-free company niched on skincare, sent me samples specifically targeting my greasy face. Reality check ~ I must have been in the front row when heaven showered oil to mankind, ouch!

savior + | problem skin cleanser (new supercharged formula) is a sulfate-free facial wash that exfoliates and reduces blemishes. Made with 2% salicylic acid and 5% l-lactic acid, it decongests pores and cleans skin sans over-drying.

If you're new to tarte or haven't found yet that perfect 'lil beauty gift for your girlfriend or sissy, this 8-piece the luxe list kit is the bomb dot com.

It's officially summah! I'm tan (self-tanning it is) and my wedges are finally out from their hibernation.  These two pairs happen to be my favorite because they're bright, comfy and fab. At least that's what my furry baby thinks...

What's you summer staple?

xoxo

#TGIF. Thank God I'm Fabulous. That's our new mantra, beauties! I hope you had a productive week. Mine was toxic as hell but the highlight was meeting my good friend today whom I haven't seen in eons. Too bad we only got to talk, I mean non-stop blabber, for 1.5 hours or so.

Here are posts you don't want to miss....

Tired eyes, puffy eyes, dry under eye area, crow's feet (okay, am almost there) - just some of a woman's my never-ending beauty dilemma. Rescue moi. Sircuit Skin Cosmeceuticals, a cruelty-free company that lists Oprah, Sarah Jessica Parker, Charlize Theron, Julia Roberts (to name a few) as celebrity clients, sent me a 1.5 ml vial of this eye potion for review and evaluation.

While testing this eyeshadow palette from tarte's the luxe list (sold at Sephora), I noticed something that got me curious....

"Made in China" ~ tarte is known to be cruelty-free. So what's this all about? Confused, I immediately asked my fellow bloggers from Beauty Blog Coalition to clarify these terms. Tashina of Logical Harmony posted a very insightful explanation which can be found here.

I have also asked tarte regarding this matter and here's the company's response...

Hi Kath!

Thanks for the message -- this is a subject very close to our hearts!
We are a cruelty-free brand and do not sell in China, or anywhere but the US.

Our products are formulated in the U.S, but some are filled into their components in China. By law we must state where the product is filled on the product component.

If you have any more questions, or are curious about the process we use to create our makeup, please give us a call at (646) 660-0754. We'd love to speak with you.

xo,
the tarte team

It's a delight to see companies like tarte who remain true to their cruelty-free ideals.
Confusion, out!

Promise of 12-hour flawless makeup, who wouldn't like that? Tarte released Clean Slate primers but I'm torn between poreless and brightening face primer. Ini-mini-myni-mo. Problem solved, moi bought the deluxe primer trio for only $9 at Sephora. So which one deserves a full size repurchase? Let's get down to 'biz.

Have a great weekend everyone! While chillaxin', check out these posts from fabulous beauty bloggers around the globe....

Winkles (writing on behalf of her Mama)

Thanks to April of glitterglossgarbage.com
for hooking me up with this awesome event.

Still reekin' from my freakin' experience with Rimmel ScandalEyes (see post here), I tried another drugstore brand and see if it works this time. I have to say the most ostentatious claims and advertising come from mascaras. Could Maybelline Volum'Express The Mega Plush Mascara live up to its promise? Let's dissect.

The Buzz. Introducing Maybelline's first Gel Mousse formula which contains 40% less hard waxes for massive yet supple lashes, never still, never brittle. Has patented Flexor Brush that gently coats every lash with supple volume.

So you have done every trick imaginable to banish acne and puffy eyes but still got 'em. What to do now babe?

Sideways and on my stomach are my favorite sleeping positions. The soft pillow resting against my cheek or my tummy romancing the bed (okay I'm exaggeratin') are my self-induced lullabies. It's a habit hard to break but these positions could be the 'lil culprits that are robbing us the beauty!

By law of gravity, fluid collects around the eyes when you sleep on your side or stomach. Have you ever had that feeling of waking up with one side of your eye heavier than the other? I sure do. A quickie solution is to sleep supine and/or add extra pillow under the head.

Pimples concentrated on one side of the face? I'd bet you are a side sleeper. This is indirectly-related to your pillow case. Imagine the bacteria (due to dirt and oil trapped in your pillow) partying for 8 hours as you snooze? Eewww. Wash bed linens frequently, remove makeup and wash your face, and try to sleep without your face touching the pillow.

Still in my jammies and bloggin'....

xoxo

Yep, the headline is true to a T. I got this full size 75 ml 2.5 fl oz. Naturelle Eau de Toilette free with any Yves Rocher purchase a month ago (Retail price $50, as of this writing it's on sale for $27.50 at yvesrocherusa.com). To those still unfamiliar with this brand, Yves Rocher is a French botanical-based company focused on skincare and cosmetics. In the US, I believe the products are only sold online. I am subscribed to their newsletter so I don't miss a single promotion like this and I purchase using ebates for 9% cash back. Pretty good deal I must say.

The scent somewhat reminds me of D & G Light Blue. It's light, breezy and clean. Something I'd wear during spring and summertime. It comes in a glass bottle with gradient blue to green effect. As this is EDT the fragrance is short-lived, I'd say about 3 hours on me.

By the way, I'm goin' au naturel in some days. Not in the nudist kind of way though. I mean with my skin clearing up from adult acne, I skip full coverage foundation in some days and opt for mineral powder or tinted moisturizer. Needless to say, when I'm home chillaxin', my face is as natural as it gets.

Have a fabulous week ahead!

xoxo

How do you remove your makeup? I have tried a gamut of ways but fell in love with Micellar. Such an endearing name yeah? Micellar is oil in water, or to be more specific very minute particles of oil suspended in water. It removes makeup the gentlest way possible without the need to rinse with water. I'd say it's the new BFF of girls too lazy (or tired) to wash their face!

I have been using Vichy Calming Cleansing Micellar Solution for over two months (200ml, $16.50, Ulta or vichyusa.com). It has a mild rose fragrance which leaves my skin feeling smooth and fresh. It takes about two damp cotton pads to fully remove my makeup, from eyeshadow to lipstick except waterproof mascara. It is free from alcohol, soap derivatives and colorants.

Another fah-voh-ree-toh is Yves Rocher Micellar Cleansing Water (200ml, as of this writing it's on sale for $10.50 at yvesrocherusa.com). It has botanical ingredients such as green and white tea extracts to name a few. It doesn't leave my skin any oil residue and it takes about two damp cotton pads to remove my makeup. It is very soothing and didn't break me out.

This woman ain't going back to traditional makeup removers now that micellar is in her beauty arsenal.

I was surprised to see jane cosmetics at Nordstrom Rack (Honolulu) sold for $3 or less a piece two weeks ago. I remember they were also in Haute Look last month or so. No wonder, this line is relaunching in July '12. Moi can't wait. Click here to sign up for updates.

For those unfamiliar with jane, this drugstore brand targets the young ones (and young-once *clears throat*) hinged on quality and affordability. I like some of their products so I decided to feature my faves today.

Shoot! I totally forgot about Venus's orbiting the sun today. Next time it happens I'm already in lalaland unless I outlive a century. Anyways, this gorgeous sunset was taken yesterday, June 4, 2012 around 6:30pm Hawaii time. Le Hub who was playing with our furry baby in the backyard called me to witness this magnificence ~ a very bright orange sun. Too bad my cam failed to capture the real color of this beauty.  I can't stare long enough because its glare made me teary-eyed. Few minutes later, my eyes felt warm that I panicked! Am I going blind? Even hub experienced the same. But thank goodness, the feeling was transitory. Orange Sun. Scandal-licious. Outrageous in a positive way.

Now let's go to another orange. Have you tried Rimmel London's Scandaleyes? This was an impulse purchase when I ran out of mascara. As in usual, I got brainwashed by the supercalifragilisticexpialidocious marketing claim. I mean with its uber bright neon orange packaging and promise of monstrous lashes, moi gotta have it.

$5.99, Target (003 Extreme Black)

I hope you had a fabulous weekend! Moi got a 'lil recycle-slash-DIY project today.

While I was reorganizing my hole-in-the-wall craft area yesterday, I saw three zip loc-full of buttons (vintage, retro, crystals, etc.) mostly hand me-downs, from my ma-dear & MIL. Hmm, time to upcycle these lonely buttons in three different ways. Look what I came up with!

The word chemical makes me cringe. Who wouldn't? As intimidating as it may sound, chemical peel is simply a procedure involving a solution that peels off the topmost layer of the skin to reveal smoother and more even complexion.  There are several types of at-home chemical peels but if you suffer from complex skin issues, I suggest that you consult a dermatologist first to find out if this procedure is right for you. This post will particularly focus on Glycolic acid, a.k.a AHA (alpha hydroxy acid). Glycolic acid is a good exfoliant. It also stimulates the growth of elastin and collagen. It is indicated for wrinkles, acne and uneven skin tone. Glycolic acid is generally safe but the US-FDA strictly recommends the use of sunscreen in conjunction with AHAs. Glycolic acid is considered a mild form of chemical peel therefore it requires series of treatments before you can see the results.

I had the opportunity to try this 50% Glycolic set from skin-peel.com a while back. It took me quite sometime to write this post because I did a real-time experiment and evaluation. Skin-peel.com is an online store niched on skincare treatments. Their products are certified animal-cruelty free and devoid of parabens.

Now that my Carol's Daughter Hair Milk Lite (review here) is almost gone- to- the- last drop, moi felt it's time to try a different brand at fraction of the price. Enter Garnier Fructis Style Curl Sculpting Gel ($3.44, Target)

I have previously used Garnier Wonder Waves Wave Enhancing Spray but wasn't impressed with the results~ it left my hair dry and tangled. So maybe this cream gel version will vindicate itself. Maybe.

As a backgrounder, I have long wavy hair. I trim it once it's past my waist and dye it every three months. My hair routine is pretty much low maintenance: shampoo and condition every other day, use hair milk on damp hair, crunch to enhance waves, air-dry (or blow dry as needed), and use dry shampoo in between washings. Yep, I rarely use styling tools.

Yay, that's my mane up there. And those are the waves "enhanced" by Garnier Curl Sculpting Gel.
